Any discussion around what people feel will be the dominate armies/lists for the 2009 season?

Nobz Bikers?

Twin Lash Chaos?

Mech Eldar?

Nidzilla?

Land Raider Spam?

Or...something else?

Tau!

Nah, seriously...Imperial Guard!

Anyway, the only thing I really see happening is people taking a lot more flamers to deal with Orks.

On moon miranda.

Not that I'm into the tourney scene really, but I imagine Ork armies will remain on top unless the IG codex somehow turns out to be *amazing*.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Guard don't hit the ground until mid-year, so I don't think they'll strongly dominate the tournament scene. But I like to hope that GW will do a good job making them competitive against Orks & SM.

Busy somewhere, airin' out the skin jobs.

I predict that someone, perhaps several players, will NOT understand how they got beat by a PURE Grey Knight Army.

....but they'll probably blame the dice.

I would like to predict a lot of sore losers automatically blaming their opponent being a cheese monkey before ever admitting they might not have played very well, and certainly long before they'll admit they were just plain out played by a better player.

I also sense that I will, once again be keeping my gaming totally seperate from an atmosphere I'm yet to enjoy and instead just mill about playing random pick up games having a whale of a time, without having to stress about whether Unit X or Unit Y is more optimal.

You know, once you get past the whole "I need to win the whole thing" mentality, tournaments can be a lot of fun simply because you're meeting different people, playing against armies you don't normally play against and, in my experience, they're generally higher quality games than those that you find at any local shop.

If you lose your first game, odds are that you won't even play against the so-called top-tier armies for the rest of the event and can relax and just play some games with strangers and maybe make new friends.

I highly recommend bringing a chaos dreadnought to show that your goal is to have a good time.

its funny you say that Redbeard with the first circiut event this weekend and I am putting the finishing touches on my dccw forgeworld world eater dread. he goes nicely with the berzerkers, dual lash sorcerers and obliterators. I was considering doing the 5 game battle reports from his Perspective.

orcs will still win most of the events this year.

I dunno. I don't see Orc's doing especially well in 40k at all. Animosity will be a pig, especially with the large, unwieldy infantry blocks, and lets face it Boarboyz just aren't Bikes.

Ork's however ought to do well

I still wonder how much is the Ork Codex genuinely being overpowered (I don't believe this myself) and how much is the players in a Tournament not being used to taking down Horde Armies, instead bringing weapons for felling 3+ Saves (much more likely if you ask me!)

Scoff.

Anyway, I predict that the current domination of Orks, Chaos Space Marines and Chaos Daemons will continue.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

I predict that some Wrecking Crew members will be accused of cheating. Many people will either support or deny the allegations despite not being there.

Or accused of cheating by not going to the events at all...there bye causing a shift in the power base....

Maybe this year everyone should pick on the Codex Toledo guys? I hear they are pretty successful also - so they must be cheaters!

<that's just sarcasm Toledo'ites....just funny - you guys have my respect>

Three perdictions:

Green will make up a ton of the field and ALWAYS place in the top 3 and make up at least 30% of the top 10 in EVERY Tournament.

Daemons will do well but because of the randomness the same players will not place highly every tournament.

TFG will be at every tournament.

personally this year i'm taking Dual Lash, purely because i feel it can deal effectively with Ork armies (9 Obliterators should be able to pump out enough plasma templates and flamers whilst lash princes can keep the horde manageable and my PM can move for objectives and support the oblits with bolter and plasma rounds, and the princes can mop up cut down units (if they are about 4 - 7 orks or something) thats my two cents)

but yeh its pretty much orks, csm and eldar that will be top tier and i think the few wildcard placements i will call them (the few odd ones such as tau, guard and marines) will be taken primarily on guard purely because of peoples inexperience at fighting some of the new combinations of guard (if the 9 Russes or something is rumored then they will push for top tier, but with my army i should be able to kill enough or roadblock with tank corpses to reduce the effectiveness and LOS of the other tanks left alive)

thats my feelings on this year anyway
