Im ashamed to say that I'd never watched this show until about 3 months ago when, on a whim, I downloaded the pilot.
Ive just finished season 3 and am currently aquiring the first half of season 4. This is now by far the best thing currently showing on TV and now its close call between BSG and B5 in the race for my favorite Sci-Fi show of all time.

Well Season 3 nearly did me in. I watched about half of Season 4. I figure I might watch the last episodes out of memories of the awesomeness of Season One.

Have I missed an announcement for BSG on Blu Ray? I have season 1 on DVD and it was released on HD-DVD, but I haven't been able to find an announcement for Blu. I don't want to buy the rest of the series on DVD if it will come out this year.
Please, no HD-DVD vs Blu comments.
Edit: week changed to year per my intention.

I'll admit that season 3 did sag allot in the middle, when for about 7-8 episodes it became a soap opera in space as opposed to the awesome action adventure of S1 & 2. However as soon as Baltars trail kicked in it redeemed itself nicely. The revealing of the 4 Cylons had me on the edge of my seat. I suspected one of them, never concidered 2 of the others and the final one was just a total bolt from the blue.
However even when it was 'bad' it was still better than 99% of everything else on telly.

Actually it was Baltar's trial that made me almost: 1) quit watching that and the TV in general (still haven't watched sci fi channel since except BSG); and 2) empty a Mossberg into the TV. the last two minutes was its only saving grace. The follow on Baltar cult thing in Season 4 put me off as well. Now that I think about I missed several episodes.

I just got my new cinema speakers set up, a HD 1080p projector onto the basement wall (about 120" viewing area ) and am waiting on the TV computer that will allow me to watch the webisodes and the first ep of the new series to be delivered. Although I didnt get all this just for this series, it played a significant part in the timing and I'm looking forward to seeing how they react to the end of the last episode!

All I will say is that the Sci-Fi channel will not see a series like Battlestar Galactica in their entire future, unless some actual miracle of unprecedented creativity springs forth and can be done properly. Considering their history of giant snake movies, D&D monster of the week formula movies and reruns of Lost of all things, how they recognized such a great show as being worthy of airing is beyond me.

I actually think its one of the best SciFi series to hit the planet. I have to agree tho that the storyline lacked a bit toward the end, though hardcore fans dont give a damn. Probably the only series around, where I constantly wonder what will happen next. Its constant guess work and its a lot of fun.
Im excited about the last 11 episodes. I have no idea what else could possibly happen.

I liked the new episode a lot. I kinda guessed the final 5th cylon early on in the series but I didn't expect it to unfold like it did. I just always thought that character would turn out to be one early on, but I changed my mind after all the new caprica stuff.
I thought the "frak earth" grafiti was funny
I've really enjoyed the series overall.. but I agree a lot of the middle season episodes were a little dull but it picked up a lot in season 4. I think they had the same thing happen as all the other shows... it comes out, people love it, so they start making a bunch of filler episodes so they can drag it out as long as they can. Then they start losing people and realize they have to get their crap together and finish it. In a way I'm also glad it's ending now instead of trying to make it go on and on.
I'm looking forward to the prequel spinoff series too.
I have season 1 on dvd but I think I'm gonna ebay it and wait till the end when they put out one of those whole series sets on blu ray

I watched the first 5 Eps, and was like WOW this is gonna rock! Went to Iraq, came back and was greeted with badly acting overly thin super-models and a space opra. I don't blame the directors or writers, Sci-fi loves to meddle in the shows on their channel (killing most of them). IMHO hot chicsk with acting skills worse than 70's porn stars does not science fiction make

I'm not going to claim the show hasn't dipped a little at times. But it's still probably one of the best-written television shows I've ever seen. I sense that some of you want to see more action, but the show was about the human beings from the beginning. The warfare is really the backdrop, not the story itself.
Like others, I guessed on the identity of the 12th back in the day, but had since dismissed it. I may be wrong, but I've felt for a long time that there's some kind of gigantic twist to be revealed. I have my theories, but these writers keep surprising me...

I've never watched this show, but keep hearing awesome things about it. How does it compare to
1) My all time fave sf show, Babylon 5
2) firefly, an overrated turd of a show with massive internet hype
3)The 70s BSG
or
4)Galactic 1980 (so, so baaad)
I migh try and acquire the mini-series if Dakka sways me.

Take the grander, longer story arcs from B5, add good writing like Firefly, then combine it with more social/political commentary like the original ST. It's a very dark show, and it can drag a little at certain spots in certain seasons, but that's not as big of a deal if you're watching them on DVD anyway. Stick with it, though...the payoff is usually worth it.
I laughed my a$$ off at the KFC ad. File that under "they know, but the people who would usually complain about that kind of thing won't."

B5 was good, but IMO was more "high sci-fi" (if that's even a real term). I think the acting is better on BSG, and I like that BSG is a more grounded and accessible show that provides a little more social commentary, like the best science fiction tends to do. Again, not saying B5 wasn't a very good program. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

B5 was alright, really liked the plot/story but think the dialogue and acting was really weak in places.I acknowledge though that the shoddy treatment of the series and constant chopping and changing of the schedule didn't help here.

Agreed reds8n on your commentary.
I will say the original Miniseries and Season One, to my mind, ranks as the best TV sci fi of all time, and in my personal top 5 (B5 season 3/4, BSG and three series/years to be named later).
