Here are some Ork barricades I recently finished. Dead easy to make and damn cheap...

Sorry about the quality of the pictures. Tried to remove some of the glare I was getting from the camera

comments appreciated!

I like the design, but I think the black / white contrast takes away from your models, I would paint them more like your table dirt.

I love how they look like Ork Teef.

@cthomps - I think I'll give them a wash and dirty them up a bit. I wanted them to look like they are carved from the rock behind them. You are right, they do look pretty bright.

@ Malfred and Stretch - If you look at the rocky outcrops behind the barricades you can see how the corners were carved away with the hotwire. I have a box of these pieces that I saved because they did look like "teef". A couple of strips of balsa wood and presto!

ok, here are some resin stumps I've had sitting around. I finally painted them up and gave the some flock. They are fine for 5th ed as the actually block LOS especially when there are quite a few of them. I plan on creating a few fens and these could be placed around/on the water.

I like these, i think you should add more detail to the bases, like scraps of armour or fungi or something

I think the stumps are cool but the barricades should definitely have some kind of trophies or heads on them. Orks always impwoove things!!!

great points about the barricades. I found a bunch of CSM heads lying around. I've also got some FW barbed wire that needs a home. I'll post when I get htese dressed up. It won't be for a while as I'm headed out to the coast for a few weeks.

Ok, so after a busy summer (my wife and I run a Bed and Breakfast) I am starting to get some time to work on some projects again. Had some time to think over the summer and line up some materials. After a couple of runs down to Idaho I think I have everything. Here are a couple of 3d concepts I whipped up two nights ago. The first is an Ork Bastion for Planetstrike. If it goes well I'll make a couple more and try them in a game. The second is a Tzeentch GD. Though I like the LoC fluff I wanted something more C'thuhul. This model will be the 529th mouth of Tzeentch, a fully sentient Daemon that looms over the other models after tearing through the Warp and into the real world for a brief and destructive moment.

Both images are quite rough and but models will have a bit more detail. I am just looking at size and shape in these renders.

Striking Scorpion is included for scale purposes.

Cheers,

kh

Ok, had a chance to work on the Bastion. Got the rough shape and glued the panels on. Tonight I'll work on the gun emplacements and see how it goes. Sorry about the poor quality of photos. I'm hoping these improve as I go along.

Cheers!

Here is the greater Daemon. I have only cut the pieces of wax to get a sense of the size and try to get a feel of the movement of the model. Tonight I'll try and wire the peices together. The ork is taken from the same photo but the background was too busy and has been cropped out.

Is... Is that a starfish? (like the dry ones in tourist shops at the beach)?

The Seraphs of Thunder: a homebrew, almost entirely converted successor Deathwing. And also some Orks. And whatever else I have lying around.

Plastic one, like the kind kids leave in our pool

I wanted something that might come out of one of H.P. Lovecraft's books. Non-humanoid and fairly bizarre. That black sphere at the center is going to be the eye. Collecting the other details I didn't put in the render.

I'll work on some terrain shots on the full table. thanks for the input!

I think that sharper edges on the GD looks better.. don't know if you made that or it was just a drawing but I really like it!

I picked them up three years ago. I found them to be excellent though you might want to sand the bases down slightly. They were very quick to send and at $2 a stump very reasonable.

thanks Grimz, the sharper segments are just the way the render came out. I used some low poly cylinders to see what kind of angles I'd need to cut the candles down to to get the curves I wanted. The whole trunk is going to be a bases only and will be completely covered in.... well, if it turns out i'll tell you

Ok, had a full house the last couple of days and before that installed some cabinets in the War Room so my little men have a place to base camp.

In my spare moments I've been making plaster Ork teeth.

Today I added some turrets to the Bastion and then added some teeth. Then I saw some juniper prunings and some left over ABS pipe. Now have 48" of barricade walls, two guard towers (very WIP), and a Bastion that is ready for basing.

C and C very welcome!

Cheers,

kh

Shot of Bastion with Fire Dragon for scale.

Shot with a Falcon, the walls and Guard towers (both very rough and need more details but basic shape is there).

A full shot different angle.

yay!
the bastion and walls look suitably orky without being (too) over-the-top!

well done (I think the barricades and mini towers work really well in context with the bastion).

I hate when people make those terrain pieces which are effectively a pipe with a piece of plasticard 'rivetted' on. gaaah. Or at the other end, over complex mish-mash...

The bastion just looks awesome and very suitable for orks. Can't wait to see it painted!

Orks generally do the whole mish-mash thing.
