WTF?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090208/ap_on_...watching_record

So you're telling me that some Swede thinks he can be lazier than a friggin American? I'm rather insulted.....

He sat and watched 3 seasons of '24' back to back, piss on that, with the proper training, I'm willing to bet that I can start with The Original Series Star Trek and make it thru a couple of episodes of Next Gen before I keel over.

Rules- Must continuously be watching the tv. I.E. not removing eyes from the screen (this is the hard part)
1 five minute break every hour
1 fifteen minute break every 8 hours.

Screw Sri Lanka
Screw Keifer Sutherland

With a little bit of help from kirk and picard I bet I can do this.....and boldly watch more tv than any man has watched before!

I have never failed to seize on 4+ in my life!

I once played VICTORIA, An Empire Under The Sun for 36 hours straight, with only toilet breaks and ate food in front of the computer.

You CAN be the biggest empire in the world if you play The Hapsburg empire and beat the other european countries to Africa, then plough through russia and the middle east when the fat cash from Africa comes flowing in.

One of the most frustratingly micromanaged games I ever played, and I broke the CD and threw it away (it cost $5 in the bargain bin) to stop myself playing it again.

That is an awesome game...and you can get the expansion that lets you transfer your Victoria game into Hearts of Iron...

Fair enough but what's with the 24 hate?

Are you like me and try to squeeze a cigarette break into the intermission, it's never long enough. However there was one time i got a 21 kill streak while smoking at the same time, I was quite proud.

lol, funny you should say that
my 24 streak (current highest) was while smoking lol

but nah, i usually have one every 30 mins on average, no matter what im doing, get used to playing and smoking after a while.

breaks are never long enough.

and to be honest, ive never watched 24 in my life
was into prison break, then that got crap, same with heroes.

Anyone and everyone I know who has stuck out the first series of 24 has become a fan. It's far more rewarding than any of the other high production serials as it actually has a resolution at the end of each series without leaving you on an annoying cliffhanger.

The end of series two was a cliffhanger. I quite enjoy 24 if I completely turn my brain off, but am still constantly disgusted by the glorification of torture in it.

Opinions are like arseholes. Everyone's got one and they all stink.

The measure shouldn't be based on watching a good show (and I don't watch 24, but it does appear to be 'good' based on fan support), it should be based on how many continuous hours of bad TV someone could watch. Like how many continuous hours of Regis & whoever you could take (I almost said The View, but in light of Obama's no torture stand, backed off it). Or how many hours of re-tread sitcoms you can stand (unfortunately, none come to mind - but the typical clueless dad, super mom, genius kid, trouble kid, little kid variety). If nothing else, Americans excel at watching bad TV.

I just got done playing GTA IV for 36 hours straight (until it was beaten). Ironically enough, it includes a spoof of 24.

That game ruins lives.

If you really want to demonstrate your TV-watching stamina, nothing is more difficult than Charmed. My record is about fifteen minutes, then I wanted to claw my brain out through my ears. It was only be sheer muscle-memory that my thumb convulsed and the channel changed.

Well, that is a rather impressive record. I never got around to do something like that. One day I might watch the complete extended version of Lord of the Rings, altugh that only sums up to roughly 11 hours

And since we already started talking about several TV shows.

- I started 24 in the 2nd season. Back then it was still good. But the whole concept of having one massive cliffhanger in every episode became very annoying. I quitafter season 5, when they actually tired to make me believe that President Logan was supposed to be a villian
- Heroes was great in the 1st season, and 2 and 3 were...okay. Book 4 seems to go in the right direction again:
- Yes, Charmed is indeed quite awefull.

@shane: TOS? Are you serious? Don't you wanna start with a Sci-Fi series that will leave your brain in a less damaged state? Like, Farscape?

Well I have to say that 24 is possibly one of the most entertaining shows I've ever seen.

My friend lent me the first series about a year ago and I got through it in 3 days. I then wathced the following 5 series over the next few months.

Ok the last series was below par, but even when its bad 24 is still pretty damn good and certainly better than 99% of all the other stuff on the TV.

Of course is implausable and vasly OTT but who cares! I work in IT and its a struggle to get through the CTU IT bits where they do implausable and illegal things. Often just randomly stringing random IT buzzwords together to sound flashy.

The closest I ever gotten to sitting down and watching a series straight through would ether be watching Battlestar Galatica or The Wire. Seriously if anyone out there hasnt seen The Wire I strongly suggest you aquire the first series. It's possibly the best way I can think of to spend 13 hours.
