Chaos player here, and I have a serious aversion to the current GW options for a "Demon Prince". Don't like the hunched over power armored guy, or any of the OOP or WFB options.
So I was thinking, why does a DP HAVE to be HUGE? There is something to be said for big power in small packages. I feel it would be very in line with Slaanesh or Tzeench to allow a DP to appear as an unassuming mortal. Even Slaanesh incarnate is said to appear as a beautiful man or woman of no particularly suprising stature.

So obviously the modeling options are wide open as I can choose ANYTHING to be a DP if I really want to. But how might that come back to bite me when it comes to using it in game, specifically all the LOS and Base size issues that could arrise? Is there any rule that demands that a DP be X" tall? Would a Nurgle DP with a body like a blob be as tall as a Tzeench DP with the legs and body of a CoW? I know I will need to use the larger base regardless.

Just looking for thoughts and opinions on this idea before I start cutting and grinding anything.

i like that idea, strong daemon assuming a mortal form.
good model for that would be the tzeentch aspiring champ for WHFB

Well i dont think there's a rule for it, but i use an ushabti on a base that makes him 2.5 inches tall. he's orginally 2 inches. because the DP is 2.5 inches tall, and its just to prevent whiners from saying your trying to abuse the rules.

But i must say, the bird faces ushbatis fit MOT princes imo.

qwekel wants to get bigger, please click on him and level him up.

I think there is certainly alot more conversion possibilities with what you have proposed. As far as rules are concerned you'll likely get some flak because of TLoS. Since the figure would be classified as a MC and the way they interact w/ cover (needing 50% or more of their person covered to get a save) you're obviously going to have way better chances of taking advantage of a coversave. I personally wouldn't have an issue with that as long as I knew before the game that the figure in question was your DP.

A DP is a MC.

If your model is not monstrous in size... or, at least, as big as Belakor, you WILL catch heck from opponents.

Something bulky like a converted terminator lord with twin power fists and wings would work, or along those lines. Some easy modeling tips would be:

to add a back banner to the model to make up extra height and when playing with people tell them they can shoot the banner as if it was part of the main body

put the model on a large rock, or item, changing his height

and then just make sure he's on the right base size. The daemon princes aren't really that much larger that it should make much of a difference.

Well, if you want him to be human, how is he supposed to look? Is he still a Space Marine? Are we even talking about Chaos Marines or something entirly different?
There are several possiblities to make him "monstrous" even if he's just man-sized:
- 40mm base is a given
- maybe put him on top of a large rock formation or something similar so make him look larger
- or try the Wood Elf mage thing and have him hovering a few feet above ground
- this is a bit out there, but maybe, he could have some sort of ghostly shape around him, like he's much larger then he looks like. I'm trying to thing of an example from a movie or game, but I can't think of anything.

You could have him in mid transformation,You know levitating in the air ground being ripped apart floating rocks lava warp force tenticles also solves the height issue.

I was in the same boat you were so I decided to take a box of possessed marines and add a huge base to make up for height. Here's the result:

The base puts the models head at 7 cm - the same height as the GW metal model, give or take a few mm

Yeah - I figured turning into a demon would rip your flesh into a gross pink scar-like tone. Or maybe he just likes Hello Kitty a lot. Which would be more terrifying to you?

Well the whole idea of "demons "appearing" as something easily under estimated appeals to me.
For my EC Slaaneshi army I was entertaining using some attractive female figure and put her on top of something, like maybe a demolished dreadnaught or something.
Like I said, the idea of a being so powerful that they didn't feel the NEED to be visibly dangerous sounds very subtle and Slaaneshi to me. I already have a mini I was going to use as a "lord" that I am now considering using as a DP. So I think I will just either put large wings on her/it, or on top of something.

*edit: THIS is the mini I am using, not complete yet but almost ready for paint.
