i collect iron warriors which are quite good at destroying tanks but monoliths are so tough.
Any hints on how to kill them would be fantastic.

Lascannons work well. Berserkers with powerfists on the charge work well. Termies/Obliterators with powerfists work well. Vindicator shots are OK but you will probably get gaussed to death very quickly.
Basically hit them with as many high strength attacks as you can and hope you penetrate and destroy.
The alternative is just ignoring them and concentrating on killing 75% of the necrons and watching the monoliths phase out. (This is what I often do)

You dont destroy them. Ignore them and focus on the crons, force phase out.
If not, spam Oblits and las cannon them, its really all you have.

the problem with power fists is that they double str to 8 so you need a 6 just to glance and a monolith can suffer 6 weapon destroyed results and an immobbilised before it can be finished off. i do like the idea of lots of lascannons and obliterators though. thanks for the tips.

Vindicator is really your best bet. Give it daemonic possession and gauss weapons will have to get really lucky to have any effect on it.

Kill the Necrons, and phase them out. trying to kill the Lith is just playing into the Necron's hands; They WANT you to shoot at the Lith, it can take it. KILL THE NECRONS, NOT THE MONOLITH.

I think any close combat element capable of worrying a monolith would do better maiming necron warriors instead. As far as ranged threats, I really can't come up with anything that hasn't been mentioned already, AV 14 and the blasted living metal rule makes them impossible to bring down with a lot of anti tank weapons

A single vindicator shell has a hard time missing, and has about a 60% chance to pen a monolith. Don't discount them, if for some reason you need to shoot a monolith rather than warriors, etc.

Take two with daemonic possession. They're big threats that aren't easily dealt with. If that particle whip is not shooting a vindicator, then it's going to be laying the hurt on your chaos marines.

i agree two is about the same points as a monolith. with 2 strenght 10 hits with basically reroll for armour pen, can you go wrong?

You ignore them and kill the Necrons so they phase out.

The monolith can be a pain pulling units out of combat in thier subsequent turns aswell as allowing for MOAR wbb rolls. But things than could spank a necron squad in the 1st turn of assaut will be a good call.
Otherwise Ya.. ignore it with a wide berth
