1)Lascannons galore.
2)Blind ignorence

i would try 2 vindicators but i don't have the models =)

i let everyone know which tactics worked.

i tested this and ignoring the monolith didn't work but a unit of havocs with lascannons and a lascannon in every unit worked a treat. i destroyed it as soon as it entered play from deepstrike.

Hmmm... If ignoring them didn't work well for you, I wonder what an ork can do to handle a Monolith. Perhaps 1 monolith wouldn't be a big deal, but 3 of them all running in with their pie plates puts the fear of necrons in me. I don't like the thought of relying on 2D6 strength rolls to pull me through it...

I guess a warboss could do the trick, but their anti-troop ability at close range seems a bit over the top. Perhaps my best option is just to surrender when it is fielded? I'm thinking orks are one of those races that probably does better by ignoring it unless you happen to find your warboss in a position where he can easily detach from a group to go snipe it before returning to the safety of the boyz. Either way, I'm crying a bit on the inside thinking about how painful it will be when my friend fields his monolith against me for the first time.

Out of curiosity, one poster said that there were limitations on which additional D6 rolls were negated by living metal. Is ordinance amongst those exceptions? Plenty of ordinance weapons in the ork codex, ya know.

Ordnance stills roll 26d - take the highest result...

As for Orks versus Necrons: you may as well ignore the Lith and concentrate on trying to Phase Out the army - swarm the opposition with hordes of infantry, and assault multiple units when possible. Aside from the Particle Whip ( pie plate weapon ) the Power Matrix can be used to teleport a Necron unit, even out of close combat. If you multi-assault then only one unit can be pulled which leaves you still locked in close combat with the other. If there's multiple Liths then repeat the process. Note: Necrons cannot WBB from sweeping advances so use that to your advantage...

In your base, ignoring your logic.

Use a hammer. It'll destroy the monolith and freak out your opponent who will most likely surrender.

Hmm I've never faced a monolith but I'm aware of how ridiculously powerful they are. As far as I know their range is limited to 24 inches (though this can be compensated for with deep strike) and they are virtually unaffected by meltas and battlecannons. In my opinion dreadnoughts work alright with their strength 10 close combat arms, though you will need 6s and 4s I think because they're skimmers. Like other people have said here I would prefer to ignore it and concentrate heavy weapons on removing their necrons down to phase out.

Skimmers don't have the "always need 6 to hit in CC" rule any more. Siince the monolith is limited to max move of 6" per turn, most of the time you'll be hitting on 4's, unless your opponent was silly enough to leave it entirely stationary.

Any hints on how to kill them would be fantastic.

LAND RAIDER = MONOLITH PWNER.

i have played only for a few months now but my friend who introduced me to the game plays Necrons.
So we were playin our first match and soon after i moved my land raider from reserve i destroyed his monolith.
This happened constantly for the next 8 weeks or gaming WOOHOO.

yea so a land raider with twin-linked lascannons can pretty much destroy a Monolith every time... just pray to the dice gods cause you still need high rolls.

I, to kill the Monolith, prefer charging it with a wraithlord.

I was lucky to destroy it once with a Swooping Hawk who was attampting a death or glory attack.

Congratulations, your dismissive and conclusory commentary has provided nothing to this discussion or the wider community on whose behalf you arrogantly presume to speak nor does it engage in any meaningful way the remark it lamely targets. But you did manage to gain experience points toward your next level of internet tough guy.

They have several str 10 options...it's not a mystery really.

Else, just kill everything else that's 'Necron'...

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?
