Urgh. I am now very, very aggravated. I have a nurgle/khorne daemon army, so thus I have a lot of metal models. And, I kid you not, whenever I painted them they would chip. They would chip OVER NIGHT.

I finally got fed up with repainting and repainting again, so I borrowed a friend's GW brand Matt Varnish. Once in my hazmat suit (I mean, seriously! Have you read the warnings on those things? Oh my god!) and sprayed them, thoroughly and at the recommended 18".

And no my GUO and my Skulltaker look like they are made of packing foam. They are covered with a gross white film. Is this normal? Did I screw up something?

I mean, I'm certainly not the best painter, but I had put a LOT of detail on those guys. Is there any way I can undo this? Or, what did I do wrong?

Usually the snow effect comes from either the temperature being too low or from not shaking the can enough.

Then again I've heard a lot of horror stories about the GW spray varnish.....So maybe the product just sucks...

For future reference I've found that the best way to varnish is first with a thin coat of a brush on gloss varnish like GW's 'ard coat since it protects the model better, then after that's dry go over it with Testor's dull cote, which should tone down the glossiness.

Take the skulltaker model + the can of varnish to your local GW shop. Show it to them and ask for money back on varnish ( even if its your friends ). If they refuse, start shaking the can and tell them to bring their show case models out.

They'll cooperate.

I had the same problem with some AoBR Nobz, so I went over them with some cheap clear coat and they look alright, but then again, they weren't that bad in the first place. Wow.

Take a look in this thread. Apparently, it can be fixed by using a little zip-kicker. Don't ask me why.

I'm not a fan of the spray varnish.

Stuff from the pot is fine though in my experience, though I only use the Gloss.
