Interesting user name...

Umm, yes, anyway, your question:

Is it wise to collect Daemonhunters?

Well the answer that is a simple 'No'. Daemonhunters are an army that has to be squeezed to the breaking point to eek out a consistently competitive list. They have a list of bad and weak units that generally don't work well together. Most DH lists that do work concentrate heavily on Grey Knights with Inquisitorial support, but leave the Rogue's Gallery of actual Daemonhunter units (Deathcult Assassins, Daemonhosts, etc.) behind.

So, not 'wise' to play DH at all. But a better question would be:

'Is it fun to play Daemonhunters?'

... to which my answer would be a resounding 'yes'. I have a Daemonhunter army that doesn't involve a single Grey Knight (unless you count the two Psycannon GK's I use as Inquisitors). The majority of my DH army is actually Storm Troopers, 6 full units, and they're bad at just about everything. It's actually mixed Daemonhunters/Witch Hunters, and, like with the Grey Knights, I don't use a single Sister of Battle.

The army - a legion of Inquisitorial Storm Troopers led by Inquisitors and backed up by random things like Assassins and Daemonhosts - is loads of fun to play. It doesn't win a lot, but is a great deal of fun to use. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on six of the new plastic Valkyries so that my Storm Troopers can ride in style to their inevitable deaths.

So no, not wise, but doing things that are wise in 40K isn't always the same as doing things that are fun.

I'm with him.

It's not particularly wise to want to play an army with a 3rd edition codex where half of the rules no longer exist and half of the units are about as effective being flogged by a limp cabbage.

It CAN be a fun army though. I started playing them because I liked the minis and wanted a change from basic SM and wasn't interested in orks, bugs, or CSM. It allows me to add certain IG units if I want to (so I can field some IG models that I also bought because I liked them) without needing to field an entire IG army.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

It depends. If you put together armies based on cool minis, the DH would not be a horrid choice. Some of the GK sculpts are really good in my opinon. If you are looking for a competitive tourney army, then you should look almost anywhere BUT GK.

Not wise, but they look whup-ass. Is that a good reason?

Are you playing to win, or playing for variety's sake?

If the former, avoid.

If the latter, go for it!
