So I looked over my White Dwarf with detail today. I noticed something GW is famous for. Sneaking in pics of upcoming new models.

If you turn to page 62 and 63 you'll see a full page spread of the "Defenders of the Imperium" Its a great layout of some IG goodies.

I noticed a bunch of odd little details. Along with the new punisher leman we saw posted earlier, I saw the following 3 tanks.

1st. Some kind of twin linked auto or lascannon version. Its hard to tell from these pics, but if you look closely at the actual magazine you'll quickly notice that the guns look very plastic. Very non forgeworld. Could this be one of the new versions?

2nd. The urban camo tank with the short stubby barrel looks oddly plastic again. Also notice the dark tank to the right of it. That looks like it also has some kind of short stubby plasma type turret.

3rd. The hellhound in the back. Its shown again a few pages in. When I was at L.A. Games Day, I spoke to one of the Forgeworld sales guys about the Hellhound. I wanted to buy one, and they said they had sold out a few weeks before so they did not have any at the show. I asked if I could prepay and order it there, and his reply was "I would wait a few more months, we are planning on releasing a complete plastic kit". No B.S. here, just reporting some facts.

As we have seen, the plastics are looking more and more like the forgeworld resins. I would not put it past GW to put the new plastic hellhound right in our face to show it off.

I also believe the reason for the similar turrets with just gun changes is the multi plastic kit idea. Just like the new baneblade coming out with 6 different layouts but one main design. Why would they do 10 different turrets when they can just do the gun swaps and keep the turret standard. Would make sense and tie all the various pics of these Lemans together.

Just my 2 cents. You guys be the judge.

Those aren't new models....

1. An exterminator with the old metal twin-linked autocannons.

2. Looks like nothing more than a home-made demolisher cannon. An the other tank has a forgeworld turret on it.

3. It is a forgeworld Graia pattern hellhound.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

The short barrel russ is the ryza pattern demolisher from FW.

Are you sure the sawed-off Russ is a Demolisher? It doesn't look near bulky enough, and (while I recognize that it could be just modeled differently) usu. the Demo is modeled with a pretty mortar-like upangle to the barrel.

It kinda looks like a Conquerer to me, that useless move and shoot sub-battlecannon they pawned off on AC players years ago? What do you think?

What Grotsnik said, those aren't new. Especially not the Exterminator in the second picture, that's Ian's armoured company.

I'd just like to point out that the Hellhound could be a new plastic Hellhound.

Why?

Well when we got our first shot of the Valk we weren't sure if it was the FW one or a plastic one. They're getting very good at making these things look alike.

Is WD really 'famous' for sneaking in unreleased models?

As far as I can remember every time people thought they spotted an upcoming model it was a conversion.

Which makes sense, WD photos are taken months before the magazine prints so not only would they need to ahve the model 3-6 months before release, they'd also need to have it 1-6 months ago to have taken the picture.

I recall when the Tau were getting some new stuff (Piranhas, Skyrays, etc) that behind them was cool scenery... which turned out was the Cities of Death stuff about 2 months before they were shown at a Gamesday.

Didn;t the Battlewagon and trukk first get spotlighted in a white dwarf too? just 2 examples off the top of my head.

I was generally of the impression that when GW included pics of unreleased models, outside the coming soon section or preview, that they were generally mistakes. And doesn't that sound more like the WD we know?

The leman russ, chimera, and hellhound all being in the second wave means the molds probably haven't even been made. Which means at best we might see mock ups and nothing real till 4-5 months before second wave, which would be a month or two after the release of the codex. We are so off from seeing these.

All the other instances of early stuff showing up was within the windows of their respective release cycles.

I'll be pissy if they release a plastic Graia pattern hellhound, I own 2 from FW and just ordered a 3rd on friday :(

oh well, at least I'll be able to say I was cool enough to have the FW version first. then get laughed at for spending too much money.

As I see it:

1. OOP IG Exterminator, assume metal-barreled.

2. FW Demolisher

3. FW Graia Hellhound

Every time I see a new russ turret it worries me that the crappy old russ design is going to stick around for another decade. Its an ugly, non functional, and stupid looking model of a tank. We shouldn't be encouraging new turrets, we should be encouraging a total resculpt.

Some people liked the old rhino, and we know from the brass scorpion thread that a lot of people liked the old street sweeper epic design. Theres no accounting for bad taste .

And some of us also really like WWI tanks, which probably explains why I like the Russ so much.

The only thing I'd wish they'd change is the Chimera's turret. That thing looks less functional than anything the Russ has.

Yeah I rather like the style of the Russ, even though I don't personally like the model for my own armies. But there are plenty of other tank models to work from (both GW and not) that I'm not fretting.

My beef with the Russ is more with the weapon mounts (those big clunky 2E era lascannon and heavy bolters) and the unfamously ill-proportioned turret. Not so much the basic design of the tracks and hull.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

QFT.

The "classic" Russ chassis is only good for use as the base for a SPG, like a Czech 38t in Late War.

The Russ should be embiggened like a Land Raider - wide tracks, fat turret, higher-velocity gun, modernized sponsons, integrated track guards.

And most importantly...
... block tracks instead of the crap we currently have.

I'm really hoping that's what we get for "Wave 2".

I'm surprised that they didn't turn the Mars Alpha pattern Leman Russ hull into the new plastic kit. Now there's a LRMBT with balls!

The problem with the Mars Alpha is that the tracks are still much too narrow for a MBT, and this is accentuated by the chassis too short.
