I am in the middle of buying/painting a skaven army and have seen some rumors that a new book is due. Can anyone give me some info on this. I am happy for a new book to come out but I need some time to prepare myself emotionally for the changes that will occur (Horned Rat knows we need a new book!).

Where there's the lizardmen, the rats can't be far behind.

If you start getting your basic rats now, you may be finished painting them by the time the book comes out, but I seriously thought that they just had a new codex reprint a few months ago. (Has it been that long, already?)

No, it doesn't.

I still don't see any Skaven rumors, however.

Skaven were last done in 2002 and should have been ahead of Lizardmen all things being fair (which they rarely are, ask Dark Eldar). I would expect to see a new book in late 2009/early 2010, but aside from that, I know nothing of any value.

Personally, I'd prefer to see a broader approach rather than concentrate on any one clan. Clan Skyre was heavily favoured in the old book, leading to the creation of the infamous S.A.D. skaven armies.

Seriously, the title should be "Skaven rumors?" so we all know that you are asking for rumors rather than providing them. Doing so avoids all of us coming out and berating you for not putting a freakin ? in the title.

So unless you like the verbal abuse I'd follow the suggestions.

Fair enough, I am not one of the people on here that is posting many times a day and so am not familiar with posting etiquette. I just felt that it was a little rude to ask in the way it was, as is any verbal abuse received on what is a pretty trivial matter. Anyways, thanks for the Scaven info as well as any more forthcoming and now I know the rules on question marks I shall follow them.

We don't sugarcoat here on Dakka. You learn the etiquette rules by breaking one of them and having all of us yell at you. Don't worry, it happens to all of us.

Oh, on that note, don't post in a thread that is over a month old. Just FYI.

On topic, release dates are a bit varied it seems but I would hope the book drops in late summer / fall of this year. I say this as I paint the bases on the last models of my 2250 Skaven list at last . Rumor-wise we've mostly seen long wishlists of stuff, but I echo the hope that the other clans get represented, and not that the current book really seperates the clans out, but expect an even more general approach ala Chaos gods and Lizardmen spawnings (as in, no real differentiation).

One of the most consistent rumors is the return of the doomwheel, and given the new plastic stank I wonder if the rumor of a skaven special character in a looted stank makes the book afterall. Another interesting rumor was fiddling with the army wide special rules that GW likes so much now, to say, give skaven +2 if they outnumber or somehow make outnumbering even more important.

Take a search on here, you'll find the wishlisty thread I think. There are some things I want to see change - rat ogres usable, assassins ASF & non-characters ala dark elves, ratters / fire throwers points drop or regain some protection - but those aren't rumors at all really
