Has anyone ever COMPLETELY magnetized a Monolith to allow for easy transport? (Just break it apart and put it back together.)
I'm considering it, although, it would use a LOT of magnets to be stable.
Any help from people who have done this or something similar before or know how to easliy acomplish it would be greatly appreciated.
I have some Ideas on where to put them, just not sure.
Thanks

When you go to San Francisco from northern CA several times a year to visit friends & family, anything can happen in transport.
Just bumps in the road can break stuff.
Even when in cases and packed carefully.

With my monolith, I've found the only parts I've had any fragility issues with are the parts that stick up off the top. Looking over mine, it seems like it would be easy enough to put magnets on the inside of those parts and on the corresponding points on the main body. Neodymium magnets are surprisingly strong- I'd be willing to bet if you got some pretty thin ones of 1/4" to 1/2" diameter, they'd hold like a champ. The guns on the corners look flimsy, but mine have held up pretty well to harsh treatment. If you wanted to make them removeable, though, I bet you could rig up 2 of the sides of the main body with magnets, with the other 2 glued to the top & bottom parts (the plastic rod in the middle of the model should be enough to hold top, bottom, & 2 sides fairly sturdily). That way, too, you could put all the parts you remove inside the body and put the magnet panels back on for travel (maybe even put a rubber band and some bubble wrap around th ewhole package for extra security). If you're new to magnets, this article has some basic tips http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Magnetizing_Terminators

I'd love to see someone go to a shop or tournament, get a game going, and then tell their opponent to wait 20 minutes for him to assemble his army.

Thank you
I have some neodymium magnets, I've used them for a while, weapon arms, stands & vehicle weapons.
Just thought I'd see what others think, and packing isn't an issue, it just seems to happen.
I think I have it figured out now and will post a few pictures when it's done.
Also, I'm going to make it fully collapsible.

I can assemble a monolith with out glue in less than a minute.
I just did it after stripping and spraying today, so that's not a problem.

MacGyver, you're awesome. Without glue! Incredible! Does it have a bomb inside?

Shouldn't you be able to do it with a banana peel and a toothbrush or something?

Ok,
Well the most I would ever have for necron would be 3 monoliths, if I got them for apocalypse, Lord arms, tomb spyder arms, and all my flying stands.
Takes but a few minutes as they're not really complex other than the monoliths.

A friend suggested that I use plasticard reinforcement on the joints. It's a lot cheaper than 48 or so magnets (Takes a minimum of 12 per side, to be rock solid. I tried it on one already.), so I'll try that first.

The cool thing about this idea is that you can break it apart and put smoke on the ruins if it gets destroyed!
