Struggling to find out my own combination of color for painting wood recently.

Which color are you using to paint wood? I'm trying to figure out which color has been used on that wood basket in the picture.

Looks like scorched brown undercoat and graveyard earth highlighted so I tried, but it doesn't look like that at all. Need your advice.

You can usually get that effect with any dark brown with a light over brushing of grey.

Back when I painted wood things for WHFB (been many, many years since painting fantasy stuff), I did a Scorched Brown base, Bestial Brown drybrush, and lastly, a Bleached Bone drybrush highlight. Looked pretty similar to that pic.

I just layer and drybrush, Start with a dark brown and work up to some sort of yellow or even green.

I use the new foundation brown (the name escapes me) washed with devlin mud and then drybrushed up with the base colour adding bleached bone the desired finished colour.

On my Orc chariot that im working on at the moment ive just left it washed as i wanted a dark wood.

Its smple and quick to do
