I'd pick up a copy of the space marines codex.

However brief overview:

Vulkan- Twin links Salamander weapons (melta, flamers, thunderhammers)

Khan- Gives everything ouflank

Pedro- stubborn, +1 attack bubble & sterguard can score

Lysander -stubborn, bolter dill, hard to kill

Shrike- fleet + squad can infiltrate with him

Calgar - God of war, hard to kill

Salamander Marines 65-12-13
Dark Eldar Wych Cult 4-1-0
Dark Eldar Kabal 36-10-4
2010 Indy GT Tournament Record: 11-6-3

Well, I don't know about posting up chapter masters and what they give the army or not is the best way to get flavor, but here's a quick run down of the main chapters that I can think of:

Dark Angels: - Have their own Codex, considered kind of underpowered right now. Give you access to all Bike (Ravenwing) & all-Terminator (Deathwing forces) Very secretive.
Chapter Master: Azrael - gives unit he is with a 4+ invulnerable save

White Scars: - Use the Space Marine Codex, so have a 5th Edition rule set. These are you standard Mongol biker horde.
Chapter Master:? Special Character: Kor'sarro Khan - allows you to take Bike Squads of 5 or more as troops, confers the outflank USR onto the army, including dedicated transports

Space Wolves: - Have their own (decade-old) Codex, rmored to be gettign another Q4 2009. Feral angry Viking marines. completely different structure to most of the other lists. Assault/Rhino Rush style, have very nasty scouts.
Chapter Master: Logan Grimnar - Once per game, gives friendly models within 12" +1 attack

Imperial Fists - Space Marine Codex chapter. Yellow. Supposed to be siege/fortification experts.
Special Character: Lysander - makes the whole army stubborn

Blood Angels - Have a PDF codex buried somewhere on GW's website. Assaulty chapter, can have jump pack assault squads as troops, get a death company of super-hardy vampire guys. slightly blood-crazed.
Chapter Master: Dante - gives Blood angels within 12" the preferred enemy rule vs whatever they're fighting.

Iron Hands - very bionics/machine focused chapter. Have a lot of dreadnoughts. No special characters, so they play as a regular Space Marine chapter

Ultramarines - the flagship marine army. Smurfs. Boys in Blue. So codex tha their Priamrch wrote the damn book. Chapter Master - Marneus Calgar - Lets the entire army choose whther to pass or fail any morale test. also has a cranky half brother who posts on Dakka

Salamanders - The Blacksmith chapter, very handy with a thunder hammer, generally prefer close range firefights and lots of flame & heat based weaponry. The SM chapter I used to play, so awesome by default.
Special Character: Vulkan He'stan - Makes all army thunde rhammers master crafted and a lot of the flamer and melta weapons twin-linked. Arguably this applies to allied Sisters or other Inquisition units as well, but it is a point of contention.

Raven Guard - a quick strike chapter. don't know much about them.
Special Character: Shrike. Infiltrates. Makes the entire army Fleet.

Black Templars: A crusading knightly chapter. have vows and the Emperor's champion. good at close combat. gets larger units than most Space marine squads. have their own (4th edition) codex that I'm completely unfamiliar with.

Crimson Fists: Imperial Fist successors, favor a lot of power fists, got beaten up badly by Orks on Rynn's World.
Special Character: Pedro Kantor - makes Sternguard Veteran units scoring, and makes the entire army stubborn.

I'm not a marine player, but that's the basics.

Imperial Fists because they're really cool. I dunno, I just really like them for some reason.

I would just look through the visual list of chapters and pick one that you like the paint scheme and background story of:

I'll tell you what you don't do, pick Raven Guard/white scars/iron hands and then post on the forums a few months later complaining "why don't gw support my army." If you pick one of them chapters you need to acknowledge they are going to be supported less and it's down to whether you mind or not. GW aren't obliged to support sm chapters just because they're first founding as some people seem to think.

If the transfers are the biggest thing your worried about print your own. Gw didn't used to support raven guard when people started their army, nothings changed. It's not like they did and then they stopped, I'd probably only listen to someone like a Crimson Fists player on that point. I find it laughable when a marine player complains that their army isn't supported when dark eldar, deamonhunter, witchhunter etc. players will be lucky to see another codex.

So I guess my point to the OP is, make your mind up whether you want a chapter with loads of supporting models or not before you decide.

Oh i quite agree I am looking for a printer that prints white.
I play a lot of different armies. One is space wolves 10 years waiting for a new codex.
To the op what do you like to play gun line pill box assault.

Most printers should print white, you just need to change the paper settings. If not just use off white.

First of all what do you have against the perfectly serviceable word "to," this isn't quite a text message type place.
Second of all, some of us already knew that. It's why I used the designator 'Special Character' for non Chapter Master characters in my earlier post in this thread.

And to reiterate
Just to break it to you all, Khan, Shrike and He'Stan are not Chapter Masters

conveys that information just as efficiently as your initial post and is simply much more readable.
