How is a raptor squad different than a sm assault squad? (not a sarcastic remark i want an answer). It seems to me that they are the same with the same stats(does the $45 raptor set come with for than 5 raptors?) and have the same movement, and if that is true what makes up this extra $20 cost. Please fill me in on if more come in this set for something. Thanks!

The main reason for it is that the raptors are metal. The assault marines are plastic model kits vs the full metal.

Armies owned

Tau Stats: 14-2-8 Won against: :
Eldar Stats: 5-0-3 Won Against:
Space Marine:
Ork:

4th Ed:

Blood Angels: 70%

Except for the part where the armor and gear of a raptor looks completely different from an assault marine, you're right.

There are lots of cases like this, take mega armored nobz versus terminators. Same basic troop type for two different armies, but the Mega nobz cost 50% more ($15 versus $10 each).

just buy assault marines and GS.
use mainly chaos bitz for them and some GS to add any detail needed.

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor.

Except for the fluff where SM turn Traitor all the time, sure.

Yup. Mix and match some Chaos Space Marine plastic parts in amongst the Assault Marine parts and you have a less expensive source of Raptors.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

Either file under conspiracy or convert your own. You know they come in squads of 20, now. Great place to tuck an HQ.

The models actually represent pre-heresy assault marines with jump packs, that have over the millenia forged pacts with daemons and grown to develop a mastery of ariel combat despite being limited in number. Back then, you could have one squad of up to ten.

The current rules simply assume you take a basic renegade and slap a jump pack on 'em. And so having a horde of raptors would probably be renegade, not traitor.

Buy the plastic ones and put them next to a Daemon model, but NOT where they can attack
them. Leave them alone for 100 years. Eventually they'll get bored enough to convert to
Chaos.

I just bought a box of plastic chaos marines and glue some plastic jump packs to them, with some of the spiky bitz on the jump packs to make sure you know they're chaos!

Get the Assault Marine box instead.

Because at the end of the day, Chaos Marines are just Space marines turned evil.

Raptors have to be cloned from DNA blood samples trapped in amber. Hence the higher cost.

Then they have to get past Muldoon, who is armed with a fething missile launcher.

Back in 3.5, I had flying possessed for my Alpha Legion with CSM base+the mutation sprue plus Loyalist jump packs.

They became a second squad of raptors with the new codex.

"why are raptors so much?"

Because, inside of each model is a decent sized rock of crack. Go buy a box and cut them open and see!

Ironically, crack is cheaper.
