I have returned to the hobby after a 4 or so year hiatus, and I am now revamping and adding to my old Khorne army. The only models I have retained from my years as a player in high school are a bout 30 (poorly) half-painted berzerkers. So far, I have begun work on a squad of Chosen, a Terminator Lord, and a Terminator squad.

Here is my progress with the new models so far.

Lord

Terminators

Chosen

Champion

Squad (Still waiting on melta guns for most of them.)

I'll have pictures of the old models as well in a few days, as well as updates of my progress. I have filed away all the mold lines since I took these pictures, so don't give me any crap about that

Anyways, I wanted advice on a couple things as I progress into the development of my army. I plan to play them as an original legion of my own creation, with white armor and brass trimming, with blood leaking from joints and eye sockets (Similar to The Cleaved in the codex). I was hoping to get a few tips on painting brass (now that brazen brass is no longer available), As well as suggestions on what color I can paint tabards and the Lord cape (Not pictured since I want to paint it before attaching it).

I am also trying to settle on a name for the Warband. As space marines, they were called the Golden Sons, and I don't know if I should retain this name, or call them the Blood Drinkers (which is what they do), or something else entirely. Suggestions are welcome!

Additionally, any C&C is welcome.

Nice models so far. The sergeant is awesome.

As for the name Blood Drinkers is I believe one of the successor chapters of the Blood Angels. I like the idea for the colour scheme though.

the only name I can think of off the top of my head is Children of Blood - I know it does reek slightly of cheese.

As for the cap either bone or maybe flesh coloured and make it look like they are wearing the skins of their enemy.

Brazen Sons is a good one, too. I was considering it, but I couldn't decide if it sounded good or not. Seeing it in print sounds a little better.

I think bone may work, but would it look alright against the white?

Thanks for the compliments on the Champion. It's one of my favorite conversions ever, and he was really easy to make. I didn't even need gs!

CHildren of Blood is pretty cheesy, but I actually considered Children of Khorne for a second before I remembered the movie with a similar name.

I like the look of the models and as stated before the sergeant looks great. I'm not quite sure though what the gs on the Lord is supposed to be?

However I would recomend you to clean up the mold lines prior to painting, I don't know if you were planning to but they tend to show up very well after painting. I cleaned some troop choices of my 40K army quite well but those pesky lines still showed up on some spots I didn't clean up as thoroughly.

Suggestions for Khornate armies

Blood Drinkers
Harvesters of Skulls
Crimson Tide
Khorne's Chosen

IE any name that includes a refference to either Khorne himself, blood, skulls or the colour red is good as far as I'm concerned.

His shoulder pad didn't cover the joint very well, and left his shoulder looking very exposed. The green stuff is supposed to cover that up, and I will be scoring it to look like mutated, exposed muscle.

I have actually filed down the mold lines since those photos were taken, but I'll go over them again to be sure I didn't miss anything.

After spending all evening painting, I have come to the same conclusion I reached years ago. I am a horrific, awful painter. I could use my poor eyesight, the brush that's a little too fat, or the fact that I don't have all the colors I need, but still. I suck pretty hard. I need lots and lots of painting tips! Help would be greatly appreciated here.

This one may sound silly... but dont forget to breathe! If youre having trouble keeping your hands steady, take a few deep breaths and regulate your breathing from there. Don't hold your breath! I also hold the brush very close to the bristles (like a pencil I guess), and fairly close to my face. I rest my hands on the table with my elbows in by my hips for maximum stability... and my biggest tip... TAKE YOUR TIME! You'll be amazed if you just take small, short, steady brushstrokes.

In the end though, all it takes is practise... not everyone was born an artist! Hope those tips help .

Also, make sure to clean your models of mold lines... it really helps make the model look a lot better.

I too like your Chosen champion... looks great

I'm just starting a Khorne list (since I made a Slaanesh one already, figured it was time for a bit of a change!), maybe one day I'll post some pictures of it, hehe.

I think the biggest issue was the white. It's a very challenging colour to paint, and I don't think I'm at the right skill level yet. Instead, I am going to try an all-metal look, like a brass version of the Iron Warriors. I'll post pics once I have a test model painted.

Try this... Give a test model a black undercoat, lightly drybrush on Boltgun Metal, then an even lighter drybrush of Chainmail. After that, give the plates a wash of Red INK. Twice. After that you can paint the trim Brass. Then all your details and such and finally a spray of matte varnish and youre good to go

It actually looks a lot cooler than it sounds! Try it out

I'm trying to avoid the use of red as the primary colour, in order to set my army apart from every other Khorne army. Maybe I'll try test-painting one like that anyways. It does sound like a pretty cool colour scheme.

It'll probably be a day or two before I start any more painting. I've got a busy few days coming up.

Hmm... another scheme you could try is the following:

Prime black, take an old toothbrush and put some Blood Red on it. Slide your thumb along the bristles to fling bits of paint on em, to make it look as though they are covered in blood splatters. Do the trim with brass/whatever colour you want and boom, done. That way they will still be nice and bloody, but mostly black (so you can still feel original ).

Whatever scheme you actually decide, I'd love to see your army completed. Post some pics as soon as you can!

Thanks! I've actually considered that one, but I wasn't sure if it would work very well. I've got a bunch of extra regular CSM at home, so I'll try out some various paint schemes this week, and I'll hopefully have some pics to post by Sunday. I'll also be getting some raptors.

No. Just no.

In more related news, I eagerly await pictures of painted models. White/Brass sounds original and totally cool to me.

Given your colour scheme, maybe you should combine some form of purity (white) with blood, death, wholesale slaughter, etc for a legion name. Khorne's Little Snowflakes (or just Khorneflakes?) might be a bit, uh, out of the question.

Well, I just realized that you chose to abandon your pretty whiteness. I actually made a legion of Iron Warriors gone Khornate (it wasn't cheesy, I just wanted four Dreadnoughts!) with a colour scheme something like what you describe. It was mostly a failure, but I did find out that Mithril Silver contrasts pretty nicely with a Brazen Brass trimming (maybe the opposite could work?). I'd give you some name suggestions, but Brass/Tin/Copper Warriors make me think of wood-fired stoves. :\

Thanks for the suggestions. I would argue that Khorneflakes is even better than Soul Eaters!

The Brass Scheme is one thing I am looking at, but I haven't abandoned the white and brass idea. I may just have to approach it differently. As I said, I have about 5 models on hand that I can test various schemes out on, and I can always get more. Speaking of which, I went in to pick up some raptors today, but I found them to be not to my liking. I had forgotten that they are metal models, which I hate working with (especially with such a high center of gravity), and are going to be alot tougher to modify to carry the proper equipment. Instead, I picked up a squad of Possessed, and then, realizing that the winged backpacks are perfect for making raptors, ordered some more of them through ebay. I should be able to give them basic CSM torsos and arms, and I will use Loyalist Assault Marine legs (chaos'd up, of course) to give them a more dynamic feel. Anyways, pics of my possessed! I didn't do any converting with these guys, seeing as how they are pretty wacky looking as is. I don't think I could really do much.

I'll be trying out another paint scheme this evening, hopefully. Ideally, it will be good enough to post pictures of!

Furthermore, tomorrow evening is game night down at FLGS. While I'm there, I have about 100 bucks to burn. I am definitely going to pick up a Rhino, and I'd like to get some input on what else to pick up. This is what I have so far:

Terminator Lord
5 Terminators
5 Chosen
5 Possessed
30 (or so) Khorne Berzerkers
5 Raptors in the works (waiting on bitz orders)

These are a few of the things I was considering (in addition to a rhino):

A second Rhino
A squad of Bloodletters
A Land Raider
A Vindicator
Obliterators (I wouldn't buy the models, but parts for converted ones. I hate the GW Oblit models)
Kharn (Possibly a fantasy model for conversion)
Other - Tell me what you suggest!

After 30 bucks for a rhino, I have about 60 bucks available to spend, so go nuts!

Everyone underestimates Daemons but I can assure you they are quite amazing for shock value and disruption. Also since they are Troops... they are scoring units.

If you need any more wings, I have 7 Possessed wings that I'm not using and want to get rid of.

Land Raiders are also very fun... especially when it carries a unit of 5 Terminator Champions with lightning claws (and an Icon of Khorne)... supported by those summoned Daemons .

Yeah, the daemons are a favorite, especially since I could afford them, the rhino, and a third box/blister as well. They will also be useful if I end up making a Daemons army.

Also, it would be awesome if I could get two sets of the wings from you. I already ordered a few, and I have the two that came with my box of possessed, so they will round out my raptors very nicely.

Another Obliterator hater (it's like saying Little Italy)? Beautiful.

I think the first things you should get is that Land Raider and those Obliterators, though it might just be me being obsessed with the thought of heavy firepower.

After that, I think you're pretty much set. The last Rhino would probably help, and if you really want daemons, you are a real man and should definitely buy them.

Well, I finished assembling my Chosen last night, and picked up a Land Raider as well. I'll have pics tonight, I spent last night playing a couple games with my now (barely) 1500 point force. After one regular game, I played a 7 person Apocalypse game that lasted from 10 pm to 5.30 am.

Raiders are a pain in the ass to kill off and in my experience, truthfully there is no better way to deliver your Chaos Lord. Ive tried it all from Deepstriking, to Wings, Bikes to Rhinos nothing gets the job done like a AV 14 Hull Assault Vehicle.

I will second daemons as some future buys. They are cheap at 13 points a piece with no possible upgrades, 8 of em come to 104 points. They have the same statline as a basic marine with the exception of armor save and the fact they can assault when they come in Ive found uses for em on acouple occasions were I tarpitted (if not killed) an enemy Daemon Prince before it charged my combat against a thousand sons squad. They can get touchy what with them coming in at a randomly decided time so it happens often enough that on turn 2 there just isnt anything for them to do yet but they are forced into the game. For how cheap they are I still wouldn't play a 1.5k+ game with out a squad of em.

Sounds good. I will definitely be putting osme in at 1500+ at least. I found some of the old metal bloodletters of days gone by in an old box, and I am going to be getting about 20 more soon. Daemon Bomb!
