The 3rd is a vast improvment on the 2nd but cannot, by any strech of the imagination, be described as a good film.

The first however is a sci-fi classic. I dont know of a single 40K player who doesnt think it rocks.

The book is good, though pretty slow-paced.

The first movie (while campy) was awesome. I remember seeing it in theaters.

If you like the movies, get a hold of the CGI series, "Roughnecks" - Saturday morning cartoon affair - but delightfully entertaining. A better blend between book and movie.

I enjoyed the movies for what they are. I love the book but I'd rather take Heinlein's ideology through words than through film. The latter would feel like a propaganda mockumentary. Funny that the director decided to go in that direction anyway.

I loved the first movie as generic campy sci-fi action. Nothing like the book, but damn fun.

Did not know there were any sequels. I figure the first rule of Direct-To-DVD sequels applies: They're all crap.

Probably because the troopers in question look exactly like Imperial Guard. It's like they used Cadians as the resource for their art direction.

And I'm sure you remember Neal Patrick Harris in his Commisar outfit...

I really dig the first one. It's a 40k movie, you can't get mich closer without using Space Marines.
ST2 Marauder was....well, a very simple and bland horror movie, which had almost nothing to do with the first one.
3 wasn't what I would call a good movie, but it certainly knew what it had to do to be fun. The CGI Mechs were horrible though.

The tongue in cheek camp cheesiness of SST is exalty what makes it such a good film. On the surface its an action movie and if you want to simply take it face value that fine. But its also a clever satire on the whole sci-fi genre. If you look at Paul Verhovens other Hollywood films (Robocop and Total Recall) you will find similar themes throughout them as well.

I can't help but think that has a more literal translation of the book been made it would have been little more than a forgettable war porn movie. I think if there ever was a 40K movie I think it would have to take a similar outlook to work as a film.
