a while ago, before GW went all sell sell sell, you know, back when they were a hobby site, i was inspried by a magnetic basing table thing for an army. so, i'm trying to create an equivalent. to this end, i have no clue what size magnets would be best for my average base soldiers, operating on the idea that maybe at most i'd want 1/4 of the underbase taken, so it isn't ripped apart each time i lift a model from the magnetized table. they probably said something about it in the arcticle, but that's not around anymore. so, any suggestions?

I use Gale Force 9's bases. The magnets are strong enough to hold them minis to a cookie sheet, but not so strong that they're always sticking together.

One I used recently (1" rare earth) ripped itself off the model because it was too powerful. I haven't had any luck with magnets. I secretly believe that everybody is lying about using magnets.

Off-topic,

I've seen magnetic flight stands for skimmers that rock.

Leave the base as normal but you put a washer on the bottom side of your skimmer.
Then you mix up some green stuff and 2-3 small magnets. You then create a flat topped pad with magnets showing at the top of the flight stem.

Viola' The bases just stick on quick as can be.

On topic- Use steel slugs in the bases, Then use metal cookie sheet, Add rare earth magnets to the tray until you get desired level of stick.
