I'm certainly not upset!

I'm just trying to make sure you guys understand a few things about the Dakka MC experience.

1) It is a whim and can potentially be shut down at any time, so keep that in mind.
2) Multiplayer MC is inherently glitchy and you can and will lose stuff due to this and not be able to log on from time to time. There is nothing we can do to stop this from happening, and it is not our fault, minecraft MP is currently flawed.
3) A certain amount of small griefing is going to happen in any community MC server and you have to be prepared to accept it. If you have valuable items you are afraid that others may steal, your best bet is to but them in a hidden chest.


If any of the above 3 things really bothers you, then you should really consider about whether this is the right type of MC experience for you or not.

There is no really simple way to hunt down and ferret out people doing small bad things. Regardless of whether you think some gold stolen from you is a big deal or not, from the perspective of being able to find out who did that, it is a small deal. If someone destroys Dakka town or goes on a crazy destruction rampage we can reverse that, catch the person and kick them out, but for smaller stuff, you just have to suck it up and accept that just like in real-life, some stuff is going to happen that you're not entirely happy about.


My suggestion to everyone is, don't 'focus' on catching on what may or may not be a griefer, as that will become your focus and ruin whatever experience you do have. I suggest that you just hide your valuables, accept the fact that there's always going to be a little patch-work upkeep you have to do on your existing stuff and move on and enjoy yourself!

We Need YOU to Join the Dakka-town Creeper Defense Force (DCDF for short, because gamers love their abbreviations)!


Where is Dakka-town?

A: Dakka-town is on the Dakka Minecraft server centered around 'sanctuary' at coordinates 0,0 (x & z coords). Its exact borders are currently undefined, but you kind of know when you're in or out of Dakka town based on the amount of human construction around you.


What does the Dakka-town Creeper Defense Force Do?

A: The DCDF is primarily responsible for two things:
1) Fixing the damage caused in Dakka-town by nightly Creeper attacks.
2) Placing torches everywhere in Dakka-town to prevent future Creeper attacks from occurring in-town.


How do I become part of the DCDF?

A: Sign up in this thread by posting that you want to join the DCDF...then put something in your Dakka signature that says you are a proud member of the DCDF. Being a member of the DCDF is primarily an honor-based system. It is up to you to stick to the high ideals behind being one of the few, the proud, the re-builders.


What does being in the DCDF get me?

A: besides the immense pride of being a defender of Dakka-town, there is also a potential financial reward. Anytime I sign on to the Dakka MC server and visit Dakka-town (which won't ALWAYS be the case, sometimes I spend my whole session out of town) and find that the town has been rebuilt leaving no visible Creeper scars, I will 'pay' all members of the DCDF that are currently online at the time with a diamond, or comparable item(s) of their choice.


What do you mean when you say 'no visible Creeper scars'?

A: Basically, I mean that you go through and take dirt (or other naturally appropriate material) and fill in any craters left by Creeper explosions...and then go place a bunch more torches to keep trying to make Dakka-town as well lit at night as possible.

I agree with yak on both accounts.

I for one do not believe there is a "griefer" or whatever you guys want to call it, I think people are having accidents or taking some stuff or playing jokes or whatever and everyone is making a big deal out of it.

Chill out people. A diamond was taken? So what? use an iron pick for a while or barter to get another one because crying about it will get nothing done.

In the end this is a game, if you attach such strong emotional feelings to something as simple and whimsical as minecraft you should probably go outside more.

The DCDF is also a good idea, we need to get rid of tree's around dakkatown and put up more torches.

I'll join, I already repair the damage in the general area I go around in anyway. So much un-needed dirt at my house.

Perhaps we can also help save people trapped in their house by a creeper? They just ask and then the DCDF run up with bows and save the day, like Ghostbusters but for Creepers.

Okay, taken down my old house as the new one is looking ready. The moat fill-in is long-term. Might not even do it just because its good as a mob trap (got 3 creepers caught there today)

Mob defense on the fort is also another big issue, Spiders have gotten over the water defense and fence, so I may have to overhang the water defense and refence on that,

I am having a look at my block chunk outputs for the areas underneath my fort, so I can mine well.

I apologise to you guys, and esp to server manager. Seems after a 3 hour research of minecraft forums that people in Oz are getting the raw end of the server deal, so its all good. What I've come to expect anyway from online games really (dragcave doesn't even let me log in)

I am probably going to leave dakka minecraft for awhile if nobody really wants me to stay..

I volunteer to expand dakka-town's torches every time I'm in the neighborhood.

I already basically do that anyway!

If you go near my forest you will die horribly many times over..... If anones going to take that bad boy down it's going to be me using a flint and steel. In the mean time I'll work on adding more torches to that area.

@Doctadeth I've got no problems with you or anyone else being on the server, the more the merrier IMO.

Forest fires aren't a great idea nick, I don't know just how powerful this server is but when they get going fires can really screw things up with huge lag.

If you attempt a forest fire, make sure it's controlled and nowhere near my treetower.

doctadeth, you are fine and welcome. Aussie players do get screwed on the server lag, but as minecraft improves its code it should be less of a problem.

Ouch, got stuck in a block respawn while mining and now can't relog, hoping it will resolve itself in a bit.

as many of you know, I may have had the worst luck with creepers on here, with my house being repeatedly assailed and the arenas which I help build being constantly bombarded. I will repair any damage done and hunt down creepers provided I have a sword and decent health. One day I shall go on a spiritual journey out far away hunting creepers. I shall return with gunpowder and my vengeance done.

due to lag, a respawning dirt block pushed me into the lava while making repairs.
All my items were okay, my 2 stone picks, my cobble, dirt, glass, sand, string, wool, pork...except for my diamond sword.

Oooh, that's gotta sting. I decided to bug out for now, I've been spending too much time on this wonderful server today. I'll give it another go tomorrow and see if I can finish my vacation home.
