Subject: Differentiating Steel Legion models?

Ultramarine Land Raider Pilot on Cruise Control
|
Hey guys,
Well I've started repainting my guard but I've run into a brick wall, where do I put the squad and platoon number?
It's easy for all those Cadians since they have those big flat shoulder pads, but the Steel Legion are more cloth.
I originally painted the steel legion logo with different background colors for the platoon and then the squad color was the lightning bolt, but it looks bad, and hard to read.
So how should I do the different squads? I was thinking perhaps numbers on the backs of their helmets but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas.
For those who don't remember what the figures look like click here.
Thanks,
Foda

I would think a number on the back of their helms is about the only thing you can do. Maybe a coloured circle for the platoon and a number inside it for the squad.
that might look like they had a target on the back of their heads though

I don't know if you'd want to copy my example(I don't use numbers and it can be hard for people to tell from a distance), but I used the lightning bolt in the circle to differentiate my Steel Legion.
For mine, the circle is painted the platoon's color and the lightning bolt is painted the squad's color. Using my own models as an example, a white circle with red lightning would be 1st Platoon, 2nd Squad; an orange circle with green lightning would be 3rd Platoon, 4th Squad.

Im not too sure about the models because that link wont work while I'm here at work.
but if you dont have many good non-cloth areas to paint, why not just add a thin trim-color to a section of cloth on the models?
then just adjust the color to the squad/platoon whatever you need

THE HORUS HERESY: Emprah: Hours, go reconquer the galaxy so there can be a new golden age. Horus: But I should be Emprah, bawwwwww! Emprah: Magnus, stop it with the sorcery. Magnus: But I know what's best, bawwwwww! Emprah: Horus, tell Russ to bring Magnus to me because I said so. Horus: Emprah wants you to kill Magnus because he said so. Russ: Fine. Emprah's always right. Plus Ole Red has already been denounced as a traitor and I never liked him anyway. Russ: You're about to die, cyclops! Magnus: O noes! Tzeentch, I choose you! Bawwwww! Russ: Ah well. Now to go kill Horus. Russ: Rowboat, how have you not been doing anything? Guilliman: . . . I've been writing a book. Russ: Sigh. Let's go. Guilliman: And I fought the Word Bearers! Horus: Oh shi--Spess Puppies a'comin? Abbadon: And the Ultramarines, sir. Horus: Who? Anyway, this looks bad. *enter Sanguinis* What are you doing here? Come to join me? Sanguinius: *throws self on Horus's power claws* Alas, I am undone! When you play Castlevania, remember me! *enter Emprah* Emprah: Horus! So my favorite son killed my favorite daughter! Horus: What about the Lion? Emprah: Never liked her. Horus: No one does. Now prepare to die! *mortally wounds Emprah*Emprah: Au contraire, you dick. *kills Horus* Dorn: Okay, now I just plug this into this and . . . okay, it works! Emprah? Hellooooo? Jonson: I did nothing! Guilliman: I did more nothing that you! Jonson: Nuh-uh. I was the most worthless! Guilliman: Have you read my book? Dorn: No one likes that book. Khan: C'mon guys. It's not that bad. Dorn: I guess not. Russ: You all suck. Ima go bring the Emprah back to life.
