So can anyone think of any reason why a Big Mek with a force field embarked on a Stompa or another vehicle within six inches of a Stompa would not be able to confer a 4+ cover save on said Stompa?

Nope none at all.

Unless there is something in the Stompas rules, or the Apoc/Apoc Reloaded rules regarding Superheavies (I have neither to hand so I cannot check) that would negate it, enjoy your rather cheap cover save.

This does bring up a good question which has a broad reaching effect. The distinction is that the Kustom force field affects "vehicles" and does not say "super heavy vehicles"
This is, of course, open to debate.

Well, a super heavy vehicle is still a vehicle.

Say you have an Apple.
A Green Apple is still an apple.
A Red Apple is still an apple.
A Bright Pink with Yellow Polkadots Apple is still an Apple.
An Orange Carrot is not an apple.

Wow that went a bit tangential.

A more accurate comparison would be "a green apple may still be an apple, but it also may not be an apple, you should discuss this with your opponent beforehand since you are playing appleocalypse anyway"

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

Thanks! And yes, I think you're all correct that this cheap-ass Kustom Forcefield idea should work. It kind of makes sense anyway. Damn Imperial Titans get void shields and all Orks get is a reference in the Apoc Rule Book to 'Power Fields' (Which are basically Ork Void Shields) but no Ork Super Heavy yet released has access to a power field. GW why do you taunt me so!

As far as I can tell there's no reason why Kustom Forcefields wouldn't work on a Stompa. The Apoc Rule book clearly states "Super-heavy vehicles behave on the batterfiled like all other vehicles, with the exceptions below..." and nothing in the super heavy section or anything in the Ork codex or Stompa data sheets gives any reason to think that a Kustom Force Field wouldn't work on a Stompa. Even if the Mek was inside the Stompa.

I feel I can safely use this tactic in future... even though my friends may yell 'hacks' when I start marching forward with a Stompa projecting a 4+ cover save on all the Battlewagons surrounding it.

You get an F for Critical Reading for the day. The Big Mek Stompa(pg. 131, Apocalypse Book) has 2 Power Fields.

Now let's get really crazy.

Model a bird cage on top of your Stompa. Put Kairos Fateweaver inside of it. Now everything within 6" of the Stompa, including the stompa itself, has a rerollable 5+ cover save, vehicles counting as obscured.

The stompa could then be flanked by a couple of looted baneblades...or monoliths perhaps. Also benefiting from said cover save.

It's a completely brutal combination and completely legal. I've run it in every Apoc game I've ever played and the Stompa (Mek's) has never been destroyed.

ah so you've never face eldar? any Eldar exarch with crack shot can ignore cover saves ... personal prefrence for me is to put a EML with my dark reapers for the very reason they can ignore pesky cover saves when they pot shot a tank ... Maugan ra also has it ... ok he need to to roll 6 for the rending but he gets 4 shots any way ... i've been lucky and killed a baneblade in one turn (ok i attacked from behind and but it would have got a cover save if it wasn't for crackshot)

Do none of your opponents field titans of their own? Strength D weapons ignore cover.

doesn't the stompa/dread mob in the Apocalyse Reloaded book have a leader that gives all stompas/dreads a inv save

You think of Dred Mob Battle Formation in the original Apocalypse book.
Yes, the leader of the Dred Mob get a 12" KFF that only works walkers, so no inv save but the normal 4+ cover save. It's ok for a Dred Mob to only consist of Stompas BTW.

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"...

I can. The KFF only provides a 5+ not a 4+ cover save.

You guys realize that there is a Stompa that provides the same effect for like 550? I think it's in reloaded. I take back my comment after actually reading the entire post. <facepalm>

It provides a 5+ cover save to infantry. It makes vehicles obscured.

Gee way to fail.

As said before, it gives Infantry a 5+, and makes vehicles Obscured (exact wording there, Obscured)

Pray Tell, what does obscured mean? -Flicks through rulebook- Page 62 "If a special rule or a piece of wargear confers to a vehicle the ability of being obscured even if in the open, this is a 4+ cover save, unless specified otherwise in the Codex."

The KFF doesn't say "Infantry 5+ and vehicles a 5+ Obscured." it says "Gives infantry 5+ and makes vehicles Obscured." No Catches, no Limitations, just Obscured, which is a 4+ cover save.

Gwar, your post is unnecessarily antagonistic. Quistis84 and Centurian99 made the point well before your post and without being rude. I find this especially surprising as you just created a Mod Alert about another user being rude to you.
