Hi there! I'm a chaos player who is facing a Dark Angels player soon. I have never played against DA before
and I was wondering what I should expect. Any suggestions are appreciated.

DA armies are as diverse as SM. However you may tend to see more termies and bikes as that is the best units available to DA. You might see their bikes bring in termies as they all have teleport homers. Other than that they play pretty smiler to SM.

They can run termies as troops with the right hq or run bikes as troops. They are the Deathwing and the Ravenwing respectfully. A true deathwing uses only landraiders, termies and dreads. A true ravenwing uses bikes and landspeeders only. They however are a totally different topic. Usually a DA player will tell you if he is running a pure deathwing or ravenwing as they are almost a different list altogether and are proud of playing a different type of army.

I play DA and imo there are 4 possible armies you will be running against. All of which play very differently

Standard DA - just like vanilla SM
Deathraven - mix of deathwing ravenwing
Ravenwing - Bikes and Speeders
Deathwing - Terminators, LR, Venerable Dreads

My suggestion to you is bring a balanced list that can deal with all the army possibilities.

DukeRustfield - There's nothing wrong with beer and pretzels. I'm pretty sure they are the most important members of the food group.

And remember that if he has bikes they get a scout move BEFORE the game starts. They can put meltas, Be a point for DS'ing termies, etc on your doorstep on turn one. That is the biggest thing most that havn't played against them are surprised by. They have a few special characters that can be interesting to deal with(AV14 character land speeder can be a surprise if you have never faced it before), but overall are mostly a regular space marine army that pays more points for many of the same things, and doesnt get to use the new rules for things like combat shields, etc.

It was a good game. Ended up being a 2 on 2 at 1850. Orks and I (chaos) vs. DA and Space Wolves.

Orks brought a standard list of about 2 giant squads of normal troops, a lot of bikes, some shooters, trucks, and a commander on a bike
I brought my usually somewhat cheesy, 2 x lash, rhinos, ts, pm, normal csm, termies with 5xcombi plasma, 5 oblits and a defiler

DA brought a 3 landraider list with 3 full squads of termies inside, a librarian with psychic hood and some dreadnoughts.
SW brought 2 troops, a rhino, a landspeeder, some devastators, a drop pod with scouts and a bunch of dreadnoughts.

1st turn:
The game was annihilation with dawn of war (I always get this game type for some reason)
The orks and I go first, deploy and I manage to take out the space wolves' venerable dread 1st turn. One of the ork guys' trucks rolled snake eyes on terrain (ftw).
On the opponents' turn all 3 landraiders came in, smoked and all the termies in them assaulted the ork biker squad that was in the middle of the field. The orks lost
and ran. The librarian charged my squad that killed the venerable and killed 3 csm.

2nd turn:
I lash one of the termie squads out, they get killed by the ork shooters, my termies ds in and kill a squad of DA termies and the other DA squad got tangled with a giant
squad of orks. The oblits manage to stun only one of the LRs. The landspeeder gets owned by some plague marines. A TS squad kills most of a SW squad.
On the opponents' turn the LR's open fire on the DP and cause 3 wounds. The librarian kills 2 more marines and the csm inflict 1 back. The DA termies are killed by the green tide.
A SW scout squad comes onto the table from the rear and kills the ork shooters. The librarian is killed in combat.

3rd turn:
The oblits kill a LR, and the DP and the termies assault another and destroy it. Orks move up. CSM blow up a rhino and the 2nd DP lashes and kills a squad of SW troops. TS finish
off the other SW squad.
Opponents' turn the 2 dreadnoughts left move up and open fire on the TS, 1 charges. The devestators finish off the csm squad. A drop pod full of SW termies comes in but since they
aren't in CC range they spend the turn shooting at orks.

We ended the game here since it was getting late and lopsided.
I don't know what the final score was but the orks and I won. It was a good game all around.
