hello all
with the "new" sentinel variant coming out it got me to thinking. couldn't it be a better option to get a Chimera instead? you get 2 heavy weapons and the ability to transport warm bodies around. now i'm refering to just the new variant that loses it's scout ability only. the only plus i see for the new sentinel is the plasma cannon option, but i think that get's trumped by the benefits of the Chimera. not to mention you also don't take up a FA slot.
thoughts?

Well it might depend on the list you thinking of going with,if you want lots of guys maybe it would be best to get em a transport.

maybe it's just me(and it probably is), but i can't think of a build where the uparmored Sentinel would be a better choice than the lesser version or a Chimera. i don't see needing that Plasma cannon that badly.

Well, the sentinel wins on coolness, which is all the persuading I need.

I agree with alarmingrick about chimera is a better buy.

But i cant resist robot chickens running around the field either ( what i call sentinels )

Sentinals can tie squads up, so that's an advantage.

Chimeras can tank shock though, so that's an advantage for them. Hmm.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

Chimeras are cheaper than the Armored sentinels, tougher and shootier than the scout sentinels, and don't take up FOC slots from Valkyries or vendettas.

Sentinels have their uses, to be sure, but I think Chimeras are generally a better bargain.

the thing that saves the lesser "Scout" Sentinel for me is the fact it didn't lose it's scouting ability.

I do like the idea of three outflanking sentinels with multilasers. That's 105 pts of pure annoyance.

The original question is somewhat flawed. You should, of course, take lots of both. Especially with these new armored ones, you can have so many of those nice AV 12 hulls.

no, the original question is what i wanted to ask. the Chimera is also a "nice AV 12". that's also part of the deciding factor.

As a firepower bunker it isn't worth it. As a part of your screening element it might be.

Apologies for not making my point clear enough, Alarmingrick. What I meant was that it's nice that you can take lots of both walker and tank AV 12 hulls, unlike with the old sentinels that tend to explode from thrown fruit and agressive figner wagging. Since both types (walker and tank) have their advantages, take both and be happy.

While I have a soft spot for Sentinels, the chimera wins on almost all fronts.

One thing to consider, AV12 Sentinels being able to tie up units in CC is something to think about

I was hoping that the basic Sentinel was going to be 25pt, 35pts is still a bit costly.

I just hope there's a DS option for Sentinels!

If not, I might only want 1 or 2 for modeling purposes.

i don't think price is going to make it more useful. there's still going to be better options, imho.
