Hey
I've been working on a calculating tool for Warhammer & Warhammer 40k as a side project. Its finally in a stage where I'm ready to release a first version of it.
Theres been some bug testing but if you guys find more bugs then please e-mail them to niclas.willberg@genostech.com . Please include any description of the bug and if possible a screen shot of it in the e-mail.
As it is a pretty big project there might always be bugs, or some other miscalculations.
This version of HAMulator has been tested in Windows XP and Windows Vista (also tested through Wine but it might be slow on it) and it requires .Net 2.0 or later.
Please download it from http://hamulator.genostech.com and say what you think

Seems interesting. Would like to see a setup where you could do entire squad load-outs though. So how many wounds will you be doing with a GL/AC Guardsmen Squad in cover vs. an AC/PG Guardsmen squad.
I know I can just add them up, but it helps for ease of reference. The unsaved wound % tends to be rather low for all IG weapons, and so it helps to see the aggregate to get a better feel for how many wounds you'll be dishing out a turn.
Funny story: 50 Conscripts rapid firing at marines 12" away do an average of 6 wounds rounding up.
EDIT: Also, I didn't think about it but you can't do blast weapons on this. For blasts I would use as your "hit" percentage the 1/3 chance of rolling hit on the dice, plus the chances you will roll your BS or less on the 2D6 scatter. That all technically is a direct hit.
And Also, per my above idea, I would say 5 weapons "slots" is ideal. Then you can do a devastator squad for SMs, which is probably the most diverse squad for this.

It's a probability calculator, just as seen on the website.

It calculates the outcome of different attacks against different defenders, so you can see which setup is more effective against different types of defenders.
And you dont need to install it, just download and unrar it

Calculates probability... Are you a mathematician? Does it calculate probabilities, or statistical results?

It calculates how many wounds you'd do with a given weapon against a given relevent statline. Happier now? Jesus, just download the damn thing.

I'll try to explain it better by giving you an example:
Insert the attacker stats:
Shots fired: 10
BS:4
Str:4
AP:6
and then the defender stats:
T:3
Armour save:5+
Invul save: -
Cover save: -
Basically when you've inserted those values (or any) you press the calculate button which will then give you the average amount of wounds that would cause.
If you then want to see a more detailed list you can press the Stats button which calculates the probability giving you a better view of how things might turn out.
Thats roughly how its done, you can check the guide on the website for more information.
And to answer your question, no I'm not a Mathematician, but i do have a B. Sc degree so I've had several courses in Analysis and Statistics. (This does not however mean that all my calculations are 100% correct, sometimes i coded long into the night ;P)

Sorry for not commenting on this earlier. This is something another guy has asked as well and something i definitely will look into.
It shouldn't be that hard to implement considering the calculations are already done.
This might take some time though because i need to focus on other projects for some weeks now After that I will look into updating the application, if enough people are interested in it of course.
And there hasn't been much feedback on dakkadakka so ;P;P who knows!

Thanks for the info, although it didn't really answer my question. I checked the guide and understand how to use it (I probably wasn't clear), I want to know how your data is derived. Out of curiosity what is your degree in? And I asked that last question because statistics and probability are different. The probability of (1) dice rolling a given number isn't the same as 4 X (1) dice to determine multiple shots.
And nobody better tell me to stop attacking, I like the idea, I'm just trying to figure out how it works.

IIRC this is how it was calculated, dont quote me on it as its still early in the morning here ^^
Variables:
Total chance to pass all the way from start to an unsaved wound, lets call that "totalchance". This is dependant on any number of variables, such as rending, rerolls or armour/invul/cover saves etc.
Amount of shots. Lets call that "amount".
The number of wound you want to calculate the chance for. Can call that "wounds".
Calculations:
((amount!)/(wounds!*(amount-wounds)!)) * (totalchance^wounds) * ((1-totalchance)^(amount-wounds))
That should give you the chance to get the "wounds" number of wounds.
Totalchance is calculated for example (very simple example):
BS 3 (hit chance 0.5)
Str 3
T 3 ( woundchance 0.5 )
Arm save 4+ (save chance 0.5)
chancetohit * chancetowound * (1-savechance) .
That would give you the total chance each shot got to get a unsaved wound.
But I just wrote these calculations by memory so they might not be 100% correct But thats the gist of it. Hopefully this makes things clearer.
If you want to you can calculate with the program and then compare the results to your own If you find something isnt adding up correctly please tell me

Wow, its very nice. I love the layout and the easy to use interface. The Math seems to be kosher from what I can tell, but I don't care how the internal grubbins work so long as it works. 8/10 Stars for it mate. All we need now are colour schemes [I'm an idiot] and a mobile phone version Also there doesnt seem to be a Rending Option for the shooting against vehicles. There also seems to be an Error with Re-Roll to hit and BS 6+. At BS 6+ a twin linked weapon should have the same chance to hit as a Twin Linked BS5 weapon (since the twin link takes precidence over the 6+ reroll) i.e. 97.22%.

I still believe that superstition is way easier and often equally as effective as mathhammer, but I must admit that it is a very good looking program.
Also, I've been using your Ork Army Creator spread sheet since before I actually joined Dakka. It is phenomenal. Thanks!

And thanks for informing me about the twin linked bs 6+ bug. I will try to fix it ASAP.

Yes it often is Sometimes I've been surprised at how much more effective one way is from another though. So I've started calculating more and more of my decisions

No problem. I know rending can be a bitch to work out, i struggle with it when working out my math-hammer on the fly, I cannot imagine the pain it must be to get a Computer to understand it. And no worries about the BS thing, I'm assuming its because each BS is being kept as a Specific Probability and "rerolling" that rather than using the reroll for twinlink rather than the BS6+, but meh I ramble. As I said, all in all its a fantastic program. One idea for a future feature is the ability to add a second/third/additonal "column" to the attacks side if that makes any sense, so you can input different weapons and have it all totalled up at the bottom.

This is already requested (several times) and i will most likelly implement it in the future.
It shouldent be too much work considering its just really adding results together (and some other stuff). The calculations are already there so wouldent have to do those over

Sweet. Apologies for spouting off stuff that's already been asked, I didn't know.
Just wondering however, do you have a mailing list or something that could update us whenever a new version was released? I'm more than willing to help break the living gak out of any new features you add

Another version is under development, but due to other projects the release will have to wait a week or two. (will work on it next weekend)
All bugs that has been reported to me are already fixed, but I want to add a couple of new features to the next release as well. Unless you guys think the bugs are so bad that it needs insta fixing
Nothing too fancy though, just small addons I'll hopefully be able to release a new version after next weekend, but no promises!
