Forever alone

There are lots of games out there that are old or obscure, but great nonetheless.

Kohan II is an obscure game that really sticks out. It's a unique game in terms of gameplay, if somewhat annoying because your troops keep running away from battles.
Darkwatch is also an excellent FPS for the PS2/Xbox. You play as a VAMPIRE COWBOY! Best. Combo. Ever.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Lords of the Realm II.

Came out 10+ years ago and still remains one of the games that I can play for hours upon hours (like this past weekend).

The sequel to it sucked something fierce, though.

Interstate '76. Open combat in muscle cars armed with everything from landmines to missile launchers. First game I ever played online.

Tribes 2. Maybe not that old, or obscure, but still my favorite game of all time. Especially after I discovered the Combat PA mod.

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags.

A SNES game called Metal Warriors. Mecha game that was hard as hell, and is still almost impossible to find (for a reasonable price). Quite fun though.

I remember playing Master of Orion and Master of Magic when I was a kid. Master of Magic was basically civilization but in a fantasy setting and with much cooler combat. Those damn Phantom Beasts would always kill my heroes and piss me off so bad.

Beyond Good and Evil on the gamecube. Didn't sell well due to unfortunate release timing, but it's an excellent little game.

I second Dread's post about Beyond Good and Evil.

I think there are not that many people who got into Viewtiful Joe. Most people I showed it to thought it was a joke.

I played for a while after I got it, but I never got properly into it.

Capcom's PLAY PERFECT, GET THE HIGH SCORE! philosophy doesn't really agree with me.

Hardly old or obscure.

Just got a re-release on the Wii.

Pikmin 3 is supposed to be on the way soon from what I hear! Good thing too because Pikmin is the best new IP Nintendo has come up with in the last decade!

Not really old or obscure but if you haven't played Vagrant Story for the PSX you're missing out on one of Squaresoft's best RPGs of all time. Shame it never got a sequel.

Another candidate for neither old or obscure but still completely awesome: Astroboy for the GBA. Completely amazing action beat'em with minor rpg elements and even some shooting sections. Did I mention it was developed by treasure? Ignore all other Astroboy games that came out around the same time as this one. Astroboy for GBA is the only good one.

Now that's where you and me differ.

I thank my lucky stars there WASN'T a sequel. It would have just ruined it imo

It's a game you've got to like or else you'll hate it but I don't think I've ever spend as much time on a video game as on Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2.

I played the SNES versions which had improved graphics, sound and portraits compared to the PC/Amiga versions.

The conquest of provinces was the main goal but didn't rely on war alone. Alliances, diplomacy, betrayel, loyalty etc. played a large part

Could you mean "metal marines"? I had that on the SNES an don the PC.

A game I loved was Super Combat, also for the SNES. Kirby on the NES was also good.

DUDE! DUUUUDE!!!!!

After reading the first few posts in this thread, I was just about to post Sunset Riders! I played it in the arcade and on Genesis! It was an awesome game!

You're right though, most of these games aren't obscure at all.

If you can play it on any system past the SNES/Genesis or maybe Sega Saturn, chances are it's not old or obscure!

I've played Metal Marines and Metal Warriors.
Metal Marines is an RTS where you have to build up your defenses and launch attacks against a single opponent. No multiplayer though

Metal Warriors is a side scrolling mech shooter. My favourite of the two, there was two player deathmatches and alot of mechs you could use throughout the campain.

I never finished either (playing of a computer) due to the difficulty of metal warriors (after the third level it just gets ridiculous) and metal marines doesnt save (neither does warriors) and gets old pretty quickly
