Right, having just watched Jools Holland on BBC2, and skanked my lily white arse around the room to the reformed Specials, it got me wondering....

What the hell happened to Ska? It kicks arse. Pisses from a great height on modern stuff, particularly HipHop and that god awful shouty metal crap.

Two Tone. Thats what society needs. If you can't skank to that, you might as well go and top yourself. I know some bands out there are trying (rather partial to Reel Big Fish to be honest) but come on.

Definitetly time for a good old fashioned skank fest. SKA REVIVAL FTW! Don't suppose any record execs post on Dakka we could bully and cajole into picking Ska as the next big thing?

Ahh Ska one of the better types of music, have there seriously been no decent ska bands as of late, I will admit I think it did kind of die out after Reel Big Fish and in some cases Less Than Jake.

Im not well versed in music but what about bands like King Prawn are they still around?

There was a semi revival a couple of years ago, but being led by the likes of The Ordinary Boys it was always doomed to failure. I had the great pleasure of seeing The Beat this summer, what a great band they are.

I love this song with a HUGE amount of passion, it sounds like an interracial Smiths. Just beautiful.

Opinions are like arseholes. Everyone's got one and they all stink.

Forever alone

I haven't even heard of this kind of music.

Is it some weird kind of folk music like that Morris dancing stuff that my mother listens to?

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

This thread is lacking in the skankz.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

The reason Ska died out is because modern medicine came up with a cure for the stiff, spastic quivering that white people, especially of the British variety call dancing. You Brits have contributed some great music (Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, The Sex Pistols, Deff Leppard, Billy Idol) but Ska is just another sad footnote of history.

Ska has always been borderline ok. Which is why it keeps ticking along, because it nevcer goes mainstream and gets killed with lameness.

Ska's definitely not dead... the Beat and the a selector have been going on in different forms and the specials have reformed for concerts this year and thats just two tone, not to mention good old jamaican (true) ska and all the ska core punk about.
