Hi All,

Well.. I just dig the idea of some "Profiteers in Space" characters. (to the tune of Muppet's 'Pigs in Space' intro)

Whislt waiting for parts for the Scythes blog, I sat back and thought about ways to make them.. without Kroot spare parts. As I had only 2 shoulder guards. Then it dawned on me, the reason the Void Suit concept (cheers Xanthos) works, is the Cadian shoulders have very similar curves to the Kroot gear.

DinG! went the light.

Much hacking chopping and dry fitting.. then kneecapping.. then more dry fitting.. and voila' I'll be Space Monkey's Uncle.. it looked alright. These sort of work with what you got moments I enjoy alot. The end result is a Void suit with somewhat cleaner lines sure.. probably recently acquired and not as worked over yet.

Also, they're more accessible to those with limits on one of the most prize Kroot bitz

So without further adieu..and the fact a derelict has been picked up off a nearby asteroid belt.. the lads posed before headin' out

On the left is Mod', ain't no metal known to man he can't cut through, the other on the right is Xan, a veteran operator.

I've nicknamed this Outfit, the 'Hulk Hounds', but one could call these Outfits any kind of 'scavenger' inspired name I imagine.

Mod'
Currently he's using a Plasma-Cutter and power pack, which he rigged with components from an Imperial wreck haul they came across. The torch works wonders, but he has had to modify a void suit helm with filter visor due to the above average fierce glare. Normally he burns locks and seals, then uses his faithful Mark1 Crowbar to work the cut.

Xan
Probably the most overly cautious of the bunch, he is almost always armed even planet side. Having lost his left arm to a sudden blastdoor deciding 'Now' (some decades after the ship was set adrift) was a good time to seal a bulkhead. In a swing of luck, the drop off from their search was with a Tau Trader whom organised a prosthetic for Xan. For a modest cut to their pay naturally. Here he is using a trusty autolumen torch, sealed for vacuum and low temperature operations. Unsurprisingly, he's always looking up.

That's the crew so far, more to come. Shout out to Xanthos and Modhail.

PS. I think your crew are all guns and no fun Modhail, ..I mean, going into a hulk without a Crowbar and a Torch? I mean.. C'monnnn man? (All in good jest)

~ Tael.

Brilliant! Absolutely! I like the backpacks the most, people overlook the back in their conversions, you haven't. Good names too

Shas'El Tael, those are just drop dead gorgeous! (As far as void-scarred junkmonkeys could ever be thought pretty...)
They're definately going into the "inspiration" folder.
Good point on the Cadian shoulders, that should stretch my supplies a whole lot further as well. Thanks!

I must admit that I facepalmed myself at seeing those pictures. How did I ever consider going into a 'Hulk without a proper crowbar?
I haven't forgotten about a plasma-cutter though, but why risk a human being hitting a fuel duct when there are servitors...

They're just brimming with wonderfull detail, I like the backpacks and the bionic arm especially.
The difference in mood and intent are nice to see, mine are clearly a "break and entry team", while yours are all about hauling the goods out.

Shame you're on the other side of the planet, I'd love to see both our crews racing towards a big pay off together one day...

Thanks lads! Dreaming up all sorts of things this last week. Just finished painting these two as well tonight. Just couldn't keep my brush away from them.

I must admit that I facepalmed myself at seeing those pictures. How did I ever consider going into a 'Hulk without a proper crowbar?

Exactly tsk tsk.. and you call yourself a spacer..

I haven't forgotten about a plasma-cutter though, but why risk a human being hitting a fuel duct when there are servitors...

Dang.. good point.. working up a Flamer lad next.. and an akimbo-style pistol man.

The difference in mood and intent are nice to see, mine are clearly a "break and entry team", while yours are all about hauling the goods out.

Chuckle, that is true.. I liked your Break & Entry team.. but felt the Find it and Haul Ass team was missing.. I fully intend to make a 'Security' team to cover the 'Haulers.

Shame you're on the other side of the planet, I'd love to see both our crews racing towards a big pay off together one day...

That could be quite an interesting game concept. D6 random encounter, or find it.. and shoot your way out. But yeah.. would be fun brainstorming over a drink and having a laugh at various ideas..

I feel we're all having a conversation in miniatures at the moment..

~ Tael.

These are awesome man! I´m loving where people are going, concept wise, with their models these days. These guys positively ooze character, they´d fit in with the Firefly crew, or on a rogue trader, with no problems at all.

The backpacks are great, don´t know why I haven´t thought of using converted marine backpacks.

All in all, solid work. Want to see paint next.

Awesome.

Love the conversions, top bitz bashing! The only thing I would suggest is that, for the kneepads, file down the fatigues at around the knee before sculpting the straps etc on. Otherwise they look a bit odd since they currently follow the folds of the fatigues and dont look like they are strapped tight round the knees.

Otherwise, top stuff, looking forward to more.

Cheers,

Good point, I admit to rushing these chuckle.. such a fun concept

And here is the painted version;

Kept close to Modhail's scheme idea, I liked the neutrality of it. Edged with metal to add wear and generally kept the palette within a few colours. I've stayed from any gem work for now, and the base is bare, once a group is made I'll paint them all at once to keep a tighter scheme.

I also kept it quick and simple, with a handful of detailing. Should lend itself well to producing a team quickly.

Best!
Tael.

Good to see you on a different forum, other than ATT..
I see the =I=Munda bug caught you as well, really nice work so far. Very crisp and clean conversions as usual!
The void suits are superb, I really should try my hand on one of those!

I'm actually working on some =I=Munda stuff as well, I just made a thread in this section. I used your tutorial to make Tau heads out of Ungor heads..

These are great love the visor and the futuristic welder. The backpacks are great to. How about a couple of lads hauling a crate out or carrying a load on a trolley?

Don't blame you in getting excited and wanting to crack on with them, it's a great theme and perfectly executed. I'm amazed at the fact you have painted them all as one piece, the face must have been a bugger but it doesn't show how difficult it would have been since you've done a great job. Looking forward to more!

I think the scheme could have a little more originality but the execution is really nice. I like to use greys for chipping as if you look at rea life reference, peint rarely chips of revealing a perfect sheen and also darker greys/browns add more definiton and contrast to the chipping.

To quote a villain - "I have only begun, to realise my dastardly plans..!" chuckle, I've got some plans along those ideas.. waiting on some bitz winging their way to me this week.

Dante said : I'm amazed at the fact you have painted them all as one piece, the face must have been a bugger but it doesn't show how difficult it would have been..

Yeah me too.. not my normal modus operandi, victim of my own enthusiasm here. The welder, not so important.. with the big faceplate and all, but the ever cautious Xan? I really had to concentrate and not drink any coffee..

Yah.. as I've mentioned before, just want to churn a couple out as they really bit my converter gene hard. I was rushing these two and avoiding my own 10hour per fig style (exaggerating a bit..) I may return and redo them when I complete a couple more.. make it more random. Thanks for the scratch advice, I'll tinker on a test piece and work up some skill on that idea.

The furtherest I have pushed weathering is these two pieces;

Thanks man dreamt up a version of this awhile back as above and now it's found a second wind on these figures.

I think I shall tinker whilst waiting for parts and come up with some more ideas, thanks for the tips and thoughts all!

It's a plasma-cutter, 40K's equivalent to an oxy-acetylene torch.
And it does pretty much the same thing, weld and cut.

I guess that if you NEED to put rules to it, I'd say count it as a power weapon, just like the Ork Burnaboys' torches.
