Based on all the hate at SWs getting a new codex, I thought this poll could be interesting. Should be fairly self-explanatory. What direction do you want to see GW go with the next several 40k codexes?

All of the remaining codexes seem to need 'something' to get them up to fifth. Some are probably more 'cosmetic' (Nids, Tau, Necrons) than 'complete overhaul (DE, Inquisitor books).

Some just suffer from wargear that doesn't work anymore. I still want them to work a Lost and the Damned or Genestealer Cult army in over the next three years.

Update all the current armies, wait a longer cycle for 6th edition.
(re)Produce the armies that people are clamouring for Lost and Damned, Genestealer Cult, Adeptus Mechanicus, Hrud, etc.
Then produce separate chaos marine codices, but incorporate more demons into each of the chaos marine chapters. Still have a separate chaos demons list for people who dont want any power armor at all though.

sprinkle supplements between every few codex releases to keep the masses entertained.

THE HORUS HERESY: Emprah: Hours, go reconquer the galaxy so there can be a new golden age. Horus: But I should be Emprah, bawwwwww! Emprah: Magnus, stop it with the sorcery. Magnus: But I know what's best, bawwwwww! Emprah: Horus, tell Russ to bring Magnus to me because I said so. Horus: Emprah wants you to kill Magnus because he said so. Russ: Fine. Emprah's always right. Plus Ole Red has already been denounced as a traitor and I never liked him anyway. Russ: You're about to die, cyclops! Magnus: O noes! Tzeentch, I choose you! Bawwwww! Russ: Ah well. Now to go kill Horus. Russ: Rowboat, how have you not been doing anything? Guilliman: . . . I've been writing a book. Russ: Sigh. Let's go. Guilliman: And I fought the Word Bearers! Horus: Oh shi--Spess Puppies a'comin? Abbadon: And the Ultramarines, sir. Horus: Who? Anyway, this looks bad. *enter Sanguinis* What are you doing here? Come to join me? Sanguinius: *throws self on Horus's power claws* Alas, I am undone! When you play Castlevania, remember me! *enter Emprah* Emprah: Horus! So my favorite son killed my favorite daughter! Horus: What about the Lion? Emprah: Never liked her. Horus: No one does. Now prepare to die! *mortally wounds Emprah*Emprah: Au contraire, you dick. *kills Horus* Dorn: Okay, now I just plug this into this and . . . okay, it works! Emprah? Hellooooo? Jonson: I did nothing! Guilliman: I did more nothing that you! Jonson: Nuh-uh. I was the most worthless! Guilliman: Have you read my book? Dorn: No one likes that book. Khan: C'mon guys. It's not that bad. Dorn: I guess not. Russ: You all suck. Ima go bring the Emprah back to life.

I would say fix what you have. We don't need 6th yet. Get all the codex up to 5th. Release FAQs (har har) to fix just released codex.

Oh yeah....all plastic figs. Please. Oh....release a pre-heresy line.

Hi.
I would like a comprehensive well defined rule set covering the current game play,(It would take about 20 pages appx.)
Then have the rest of the rule book filled with unit stats and army composition lists for all current armies.
(No fluff just the information needed to play the game.)

Then release expansions with advanced rules and new units for ALL armies per expansion.

The core problem with 40k is the utterly convoluted overcomplex and counter intuitve rule set.
The staight forward low complexity of the game play could be covered much better, by fewer better chosen rules and game mechanics.

@Creon:

I'd be OK with a new 40k Armies Book that strips away most of the unnecessary chrome that's built up over the years.

But I'm not sure you'll see a lot of mass support for armies "losing" their Speshul Roolz...

I think they need to get off their asses and Update any codex that isnt 5th edition to 5th edition. That is, any codex that is out now (Including all the Variant Marine lists, stop your whining FFS) needs to be updated to 5th edition Points costs and wordings. A single compilation book filled with errata to update each codex is ok only as a stopgap measure (and we all know how well the last "stopgap measure" codex's went about -coughDarkAngelsBloodAngelsSpaceWolvescoughcough-)

That alone will kill almost all the problems of codex's not matching each other, and will let them do Chaos Marines right for a change.

Only once they have done that should they release any more expansions or (God-Emperor forbid) new editions.

Boy was that a tough one, good poll.

I had to go with update existing codices.

Wouldn't it be great if 5th edition were the first edition where every legacy codex got an update BEFORE 6th?

Heaven I say!

Also FYI, I buy every codex whether I intend to build the army or not, I think GW would be well served.

I also think this would help retailers move old inventory off their shelves, and I think those kinds of decisions are smart ones for everyone (GW, stores and the player base.)

I actually voted to create or recreate new codexes. I figure that GW will never get everything up to the same level due to their business model/cycle. But, I'd sure like me some Lost and the Damned or Ad Mech.

I want to see each, YES EACH, of the first foundings get a seperate codex, with good custom rules, and the like. BT need to never get an update, White Scars need a seperate codex, and every pre-heresy chaos army needs their own codex. I happen to HATE the fact that BT has a seperate codex. Why do they get beautiful treatment when WS don't even get the same rules they had in the last codex? I find GW's lack of faith in the GOOD SM foundings to be disgusting.

^What. We have enough Spase Marienz (hurr) thank you very much.

Chaos needs a total revamp, as do Necrons and DE. NOW. GW needs to get motivated and stop making Space Marines until the rest of the codecies are done.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Now now, that's the problem. Face it, the game now revolves around SMs and ORKs. Why not at least give some decent rules then? I don't want a 50 page codex for them, but I want seperate units for them, like the style of the SW codex.

If GW ever make codex's in the style of the 3rd edition Space Wolf Codex again I will personally go over to Nottinghamshire and bite their gnads off.

Hahaha! Obvious Troll is obvious!

Thing is, as most of the Loyalists bent over and accepted the Codex Astartes, there isn't any custom rule required.

As for Chaos, well, the current Codex design model shows they don't really need anything more than for GW to tack on a bunch of Special Characters to unlock various optional Special Rules.

And besides, you'd be missing 2 Legions.

EXCUUUUUUUSE ME???

-Slaps with a Tankard shaped as a wolfs head-

We do not follow that thar codex! Bunch of snooty Up their own arse snooty Buggers!

</rant>

Actually, most of the 1st founding do NOT follow the codex very strictly, the only two who hold it in any sort of "major" regard are the Ultramarines and Imperial Fists. The Raven Guard, Blood Angels, Dark Angels and White Scars all use Modified versions of the codex, though the degree of modification differs between each Chapter.

The Space Wolves, Iron Hands and Salamanders all opposed the codex (Wolves because Leman Russ was a manly man, Vulkan cause he had no Legion anyway, and the Iron Hands because they're just Stubborn donkey-caves anyway) and never really listened to it. And before people cry foul over the Iron Hands and Sallies, check a little bit Sallies have 7 Companies organised in a different fashion to a codex chapter, and the Iron hands have clans which, while somewhat similar to a codex company, are independent from one another similar to how Space Wolf Great Companies act.

Edit: The Emperor Protects... But only those Who Speel correctly... METAL BAWKES!!!!!

@Gwar: The way I see it:

- Dorn, like the extreme wimp he is, was the first to bend over and actually did a Goatse for Roboute.

- Sigmusund, upon seeing this, lost all remaining respect for his former Primarch, gave everyone the finger, and took the handful of actual men in the Legion off "on Crusade".

- Lion, having barely survived a Chaos revolt within his own Legion, decided to stay heads down and pretend to follow the Codex.

- Jagati of the Scars, and the rest of the still-living Primarchs were shocked into silence by Sigmusund's display of actual manoohd, and said nothing.

- Leman and the rest of the Wolves, however, follow Sigumund's example and become the red-headed stepchildren of the Imperium.

- the Blood Angels, having lost the Primarch had no say in the matter, and accepted their fate under the Codex Astartes. With the End Times coming, the BA finally start to show a little sack, demand extra shipments of Jump Packs, and actually field Assault Marines as Troops.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!

nice dude.

But seriously, some alternate non imperial codeii would be nice. Necrons, Lost and the Damned, etc. I think that a properly done AdMech army would probably have a lot of use not only as a AdMech book, but as a "counts as" codex, because of the options that that codex would (or at least should) have.

I love my marines and am working on both a preheresy IF and of course my Templar, but I am sick of playing other space marines. I have wanted to do a Vostroyan army for years now, but I hate jumping on the bandwagon. So I think that it is going to be me stuck doing Necrons or Nids or something for my casual play army.

Anyway. Just give us something NEW.
