What is a Hrud? You don't really know if the intention of this pic is to be an HQ, Elite, Troop, etc.

Go off a dryad and add scales? bigger eyes?

They're under the Wood Elf army range for Fantasy.

Here's a few:

I thought Hruds were meant to look a bit like skavens? I remember seeing a sketch in one of the books, or in an old white dwarf, that showed several alien races, includeing an early necron. In that one, hruds look very much like gas mask wearing rat men.

If you go waay back to issue 304 (may 2005), there is a Tyranid hunter showcase, in that article, there is an Ordo Xenos Inquisitor and retinue conversion by Dave Taylor. One member of the retinue is a converted hrud, made from a skaven ratling gunner.

I dunno...

I'm fairly certain that's not a 'proper' Hrud, I believe they look more lke what is circled here

i know what your saying, but they had to rework them as the board didnt Warhammer 40k becoming Fantasy in space

im going with the modernised xenology version in the original photo for 2 reasons

1. the 3rd ed has already been done and i want my army to be unique

2. its the current one

i'm thinking about using a highly modified night goblin model for the elite hrud assains, what do you think?

Yes Hrud are space Skaven. The Really old story behind that was the Skaven started to worship a dark being, the horned rat I think its called, and were dropped on to the world in banshiment.
That how it was many years ago and everyone knows how much GW loves to change Fluff.

Whenever anyone brings this up, eveyone always goes 'Hrud are Skaven!!!11!'

They really aren't. They might be based off the same concepts as skaven, as in 'sewer/air duct/understreet dwelling monstery things' but they are not actual skaven in space. That is the most recent picture of the Hrud that gw has released, and that's what they currently look like.

Of course, gw haven't really done much at all with the race, apart from mention it in xenology. There was a user on 'The-Conclave', an =][= forum, called precinctomega, who submitted a story for the 40k short story analogy about a year ago, who got it rejected because they he used hrud as antagonistss, and they didn't want to cement them anywhere.

Anyhoos, here is some (non-rat) pictures a models that come off the conclave. It's 54mm, but I guess that just means that you get more detail. It's the best interpretation that I've seen so far.

And some info from the same sight. Also, the people who post on that forum are very smart, and as =][= involves lots of story telling and focus on small details, many of them know the 40k fluff backwards.

Here's one of my posts from before on this subject. It they may be a lot of words in the threads, but there is also a lot of information if you can be bothered. And it's pretty interesting.

lalabox wrote:
Cheese Elemental wrote:I'm certain Hrud are the futuristic equivalent of Skaven from WHFB. It's been implied a lot.

There was a thread on this over at the-conclave.co.uk, where one member got a bit 'animated' about how the only reason that people think that the Hrud are ratmen in space is from one small picture from the 3rd ed rulebook. But then he has a picture of what they look like at the moment in current fluff. It's on the 3rd page. Here, here, here you can find some really interesting information about the Hrud, although it's all =][= rules. But they are the 40k equivalent of skaven, just not ratmen in space. If anyone asks, I can copy the information onto this thread.

A friend of mine from Wargamerau did a full Hrud army for the last ed guard codex.

Here is the thread if your interested
http://www.wargamerau.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=28834

Also many many many years ago I saw a guy who made a FANTASTIC hrud army based on the eldar codex. I saved a couple of the pics as i used the tank conversions for a base to make my own converted valkyries (back before we had plastic ones)

Anyone know who this guy is or where some other pics of this army may be?

This one is based around the Hrud being space Scaven

Ah yes. Gotta love it!

Wow, just wow. This tank is amazing! I see Tau, Necron and SM bitz, so it's more expansive than a valkyrie...

I love these rare Hrud threads. They always make me happy. I remember seeing both of those pics when they were released. I personally like the rag version better. It just looks cooler to me. The other one reminds me of sea weed

You know, it's certainly possible that the creepy little "space skaven" guys and the big slimy "updated Hrud" thing could be in the same army. Maybe the "nocturnal warriors of Hrud" serve the big slimy dudes, or vice-versa? Currently, there's no real reason to claim that Hrud are one thing and one thing only. Apart from two small pictures, GW certainly hasn't made any sort of artistic or background commitment with them. You can basically do whatever you want.

Man, shortly after I first started 40K gaming in Richmond (and thought GK's would be tough because of what the fluff said about them LOL) there was this guy named Tim who did a Hrud army based on LatD. All the models were skaven based, except for a few Necromunda models (the ratskin guys). He had a Leman Russ powered by warpstone. VERY cool conversion.

First picture isnt an actualy Hrud, its some stoned artist drawing something and saying its something else so it can go in a book.

That tank is from a really creative army by a chap named Col. Hammer, who may still be around Dakka. I hope Migsula doesn't mind the link to his site, where he hosts pics of Col. Hammer's army (the two are good friends):

http://www.pbase.com/migsula/hrud

Every piece in the army is heavily converted from a variety of sources, including skaven, lizard men, tau etc. I believe he used the eldar codex. It's loaded with fun and personality, take a look!

Yes, official fluff says that they are only space skaven in theme. They are not actual rats anymore because gw decided it would be cheap and boring to dump a fantasy race into 40k. So they are now what you see there.

Also, DarkSaint has alread said:

So suggestions on making rats probably isn't the best idea.

Well it's not a stoned artist... it's a redesign that was made for GamesWorkshop, even though they entered it into the artwork book they released in 06, it was mislabeled as a Hrud. However as all publications printed by BL are automaticly cannon and 'screw anything else' they ran with it.

However all true believes maintain that the 3rd edition Hrud are correct likeness, as the Hrud are in one of the Gaunt's Ghost's novels and are described as Ratlike creatures.

Nice to see all those models, I'd just wonder what a possible codex would look like.
