Iron Will: If Yarrick loses his last Wound, do not remove him but instead place him on his side. At the start of the Imperial Guard's next turn, roll a D6. On a 3+ he staggers back to his feet with a single Wound, bloody but defiant. If Yarrick would be placed in base contact with an enemy place him so that he is more than 1" from any enemy models....

Note the usage of "more than 1" instead of "within 1". Yarrick can stand up and teleport anywhere on the board as long as he is "more than 1" away from any enemy model.

. No, seriously this is just another example of really poor writing. Intention propably was something along the lines of how the Necron WBB system works. Mark the spot where Yarrick fell and measure from there where he will stand up, in case the enemy consolidation move overruns his position.

Actually, this is epic win and cake. Teleporting Yarrick FOR THE WINRAR!

You'd think with a Name like Yarrrrrrrrick he'd be a pirate, but he is clearly a ninja, being able to traverse such great distances!

Forever alone

I hope they never FAQ this. It means that IG will dominate until their next codex. Until then, wheee! Teleporting Yarrick fun.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Proveing that the E-Peen mentality is alive and kicking on Dakka Dakka since 2009/03/05!

Seriously dude, you need to chill the frack out and lay off the Net Muscle Complex. Op has a legit discussion and you contribute nothing but derailment since your first post here.

Your as bad as GBF at times.

On topic:
I feel that this is nothing more then Bad writing on Gw's part. If someone tried to pull this outside of a friendly game on me the TO would get pulled into the discussion real quick.

SPESS MAHRINES HURRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!

What you need to do is unclench and let the rod out. I'm what we call "Joking"

As for the GBF comment, I take that as a Compliment.

Thirdly, OK if you want discussion: It seems that it can be twisted to allow Yarack to become a mega Cyborg Ninja Capable of traversing 9001" a turn as long as he dies. This is kind of ridiculous, but that is what it seems like. This requires an Errata to clear up, something that GW are allergic to, so we shall never have one.

How's that for a contribution?

A mod should just lock this thread now before it gets any further out of hand. Yes, we get it. TFG's can have a field day with the new guard codex. If you're playing at a tournament, have the TO clear issues like this up. If it's a friendly game, use the logical choice. If your opponent demands doing this and you don't like it, don't play him.

This (and dare I say, ANY) game is meant to be fun, and VERY few people have fun picking apart trivial rules inconsistencies.

let's be honest though, No-one worth playing will actually try this, and yes, if they do, just don't play them.

I think the real problem is going to arise in tournaments, leagues, campaigns, and other situations where you may not get to pick your opponent. In situations where winning is rewarded more than just with a smile and a high five (or maybe a pint) players who would normally be very reasonable about the game and fun to play against are going to be tempted to exploit the rules inconsistencies in the Guard codex (orders on opponents turn, mixed accuracy barrage weaponry, etc) in order to win.

So when something like this is brought up, should the opposing player, or the judge as it may be, side with what the rules say or what they think the rules should say? If a judge isn't involved and it is resolved by a roll-off... well should something so ridiculous really have a 50% chance to succeed? That's another reason why I don't like the roll-off-for-rules-disputes idea is that it encourages arguing things tenaciously even if you're obviously wrong... but that's another thread.

Why did the berzerker cross the road?

Yeah, sleep is my friend. Gwar is just stating what I would do to anybody who tried this in a game. If you need to sink to this level to even try to win, then GG and go play something I am not interested in.

As ridiculous as this obviously is, it does need an official clearing up. What if I want Yarrick to be 6" away when he stands up so he can join another Guard unit and charge? RaW says this is fine, but we have to depend on the nebulous RaI here, which states that the distance should be as close as possible to where he got "killed." Problem is, how much distance is reasonable?
Ugh. That would be a tournament nightmare for everyone.

RAI clearly says he should placed over 1" from enemy models but as close as possible to the place he took his last wound.

If you place him further away you break the rules.

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"...

Actually, you don't break any rules. You break the spirit of the rules, but you certainly do not break any actual rules

Agreed
if you place him 60" away from his original position, is he over 1" from an enemy model? if yes, then you have obeyed the rule whilst as Gwar said, break the spirit of the rules.

All it needs is a sentence that says "If there is an enemy model within 1" of Yarrick, move Yarrick the least amount of distance required to be over 1" from an enemy model"

In this case I don't expect GW to write the rules better... I expect players not to be that much of a tool.

Ah but there begins the Slippery Slope. How can a Player who wants to play by the rules, no matter how annoying, arbitrary and odd they seem, be a Tool?

If that's so, am I also a Tool if I don't allow your Dark Angels or Black Templars to use the new Storm Shields or PotMS?
Am I a tool for asking you play Shrikes Ability correctly, in the absence of any real errata?
Am I a tool for saying "No, you cannot take a Single Squad in a Chimera Anymore in your Daemonhunters army" because Armoured Fist Squads no longer exist?

No, we use the printed values and rules of our respective codexes.

The tool refrence is to moving Yarrick 60" as being well beyond the understood meaning.
