Different colored necron energy rods?

I have heard rumors about someone using different colored rods, and I am wondering what kind of alternative materials can be bought or made to do this. I am buying my box set this week, help appreciated.

The best way to make this is a little complicated.

What you need to do is go to a hobby store and get yourself a resin casting kit and clear resin. You take one of your green rod sprues and you re-cast it in clear resin.

From there, it is just a matter of applying ink over the clear resin. You can make it any color you like.

I'm sure there are dyes to color the clear resin itself, but I've never really looked for them or tried that.

This is probably one of the more complicated ways of getting the effect you want.

You can get different colored clear rods from plastruct and cut them to size. Much easier than molding and casting your own.

First thing off the top of my head is...

mini glow sticks.

I'm quite sure there are some available in a small enough size. I even imagine how kool it would look.
If you could figure a way to make them replaceable, you could put on an awesome mini light show at
games. When they run out of light they still carry a green tint for months after.

Ive seen some nice see through blue rods on some necrons, they were actualy the shaft from some cotton buds! exact diameter, and looked fantastic.

I ordered mine from Plastruct. I've never heard of anyone going to the trouble of casting their own.

I ordered all the colors available from Plastruct, and I found that Red was the nicest looking. The other colors just don't have the same intensity. The blues were my second choice, but they were more light blue than glowy like the red is.

MiniWarGaming sells 'em by the buttload. They also stock the thicker tubes for the Monolith, etc, in different colors.

They don't really have any way to browse except by description. When i get home and online tonight, I'll find the correct description for these rods from my Plastruct catalog.

@SauerKRAUT220 The easiest way to browse Plastruct's selection is to stop by a FLGS that happens to stock their products (the plastruct website should direct you to who does this). The alternative way is to buy the catalog, it's only $5 and it doesn't go out of date very quickly.

EDIT: Apparently they also have a .pdf of the catalog available for free as well...

You're looking for the 2.4mm Flourescent Rods from Plastruct, they match the closest to the necron gun rods. I'm sure the larger rods for the monolith are 3mm.

If you search for the color you want (red, blue, yellow, green) under the Acrylics product group,you will findwhat you are looking for. 3/32 for the warrior's gauss rifles, 1/8 for the monolith.

I went the plastruct way too. I have a local train store and got a chance to look through all of their various colored rods.
