Hello new friends!

I'm new to your forum ( i decided to join up given how much you guys love converting and all the cool ideas ive seen on here in the past few days)

I've been in the hobby for a few years now and i really enjoy doing my 'own thing', i got nothing against orks / elder / tau
(tho i do hat marines!!!!) but for me i wanted do something few other even think of, my own aliens races.
O.k first off you may wonder who the Khrave
& Barghesi are? they are named races in the 40k background (pages 139 4th ed rulebook, page 117 5th ed rulebook and the barghesi are hinted at in the s.m codex under the iron lords pic.)
But there are no models or even pictures of them so i've pretty much made up everything for them such as a vague background, colour schemes, model conversions.

This projected started life about ten months ago.I decided i want to make a small Lost & the Damned army for fun. But as with many things in life it's snow balled into a life consuming obsession which still has no end in sight

Any way before I go on too much, here is the basic bare bones of my fluff.
It will get changed as models ideas come and go.
(Before i carry on i gotta say, i'm a simply bedroom hobbyiest not a uber veteran painter or some hig profile script writer, i gladly steal and twist ideas to suit my need so if you think you read this before you most likely have read the books i read, played the games i play or watched the moives i do)

The Alien Union.

The Alien Union is society of highly segmented confederation of species.
While an overall socio-political review is important for understanding the nuances of the Alien Union society, including the role of the never seen before Prophets, the key to for combating the enemy is to review the Unions fighting classes which are comprised of the Barghesi (Jackels), the Khrave (Elites), and atleast 2 other species commonly known as ‘Brutes’ and ‘Grunts’ and a leadership species only known as the Prophets.

The Khrave
(Counts as warboss, nobz, big mek, flash gitz, deffkoptas)
The Khrave (also referred to as Elites) are excellent soldiers, brilliant tacticians and highly disciplined despite their scruffy appearance.
They are extremely aggressive fighters forming the primary core of the Alien Unions fighting forces. Faster and stronger and tougher than a normal human, they fight in relatively small numbers but often lead squads of Barghesi grunts. There skin is a vivid purple / pink but often covered in dirt and oil. As with most Alien Union technology their armour and weapons seem primitive and ill kept but are no less lethal in the clawed hands. Though most Khrave seem to be little more than massively muscled thugs a few seem to have more specialized roles. Khrave ‘surgeons’ are often seen included in Khrave units, often patching up wounded comrades. Other Khrave are obviously the battlefield leaders of the Alien Union, massive Khrave Warlords have been reported leading their troops from the frontline. And Khrave ‘engineers’ have also been reported making on the spot repairs of battle vehicles and carrying powerful force fields which can protect large numbers of nearby troops
A common rumour among human troops that the Khrave are mind eating is maybe slightly incorrect, it seems that Khrave not only eat minds but seem to have a lust for human flesh. Freed prisoners have claimed that Khrave indulge in great feasts, often human children seem to be delicacies among the more powerful Khrave, and the warlord known as Xerxes is known to eat small children just before battle claiming this gives him great strength.

The Barghesi
(Counts as shoota boyz in game)
The Barghesi (also referred to as Jackels) are the basic infantry unit of the Alien Union, known as Jackels by the common Human soldier.
Barghesi are hyper violent and are extremely dangerous, and are utterly without fear when they gather in large numbers.
Short and stocky and relatively unarmoured they carry a rusty looking but powerful gun and almost all seem to have atleast one hand removed and replaced with crude cutting devices. Clearly these creatures are not the most intelligent of the Alien Union species, as such units of Barghesi are led by Khrave Elites which can just about force the Barghesi in the right direction and then just stand back and watch the devastation they cause in their wake.

Xerxes - The Khrave Warlord.

The Khrave

The Barghesi

Khrave Warwagon & and one of my Khrave deffkoptas.

Khrave Stompa

The whole army so far.

There is still quite bit still to finish, like 10 Khrave flash gitz, a mobs of grots, 16 more Khrave Elites, a big mek and a weird boy.

So what do you guys think so far?

Boomer.

Welcome to Dakka!

I'd also like to commend you for a great looking army. You've managed to change the feel of the orks with a simple but effective conversion. It really adds a lot of flavor to your army. If every ork army that pounded me into the ground had been shown this much love I'd welcome the beating.

What are the grots going to be? Have any kind of backstory working for them or any kind of color scheme your thinking of?

Once upon a time, I told myself it's better to be smart than lucky. Every day, the world proves me wrong a little more.

Thanks

I have quite a few of the little terrors from the nob and stompa kits and i'm going to add a sqaud of them as well. But i dont want to paint them green. I'm not going to convert them as i really like the models as they are, so i'm open to any ideas what colour would go well with the aliens ive already painted?
I want to try and steer away from pink or blue as i've used them already. I'm really leaning towards or yellow or orange as a skin color.

Any other ideas are most welcome , thanks.

Under the Himalaiyan mountains

Pretty awesome army.
I like the paint scheme and head changes.

"I.. I know my time has come" Tethesis said with a gasp, a torrent of blood flowing from his lips.
"No! Hang on brother!!" Altharius could feel the warmth slip away from his dear sibling's hands

Tethesis's reached out his bloodied arm to Altharius's face.
"I..I have one final request"
Altharius leaned close to listen, tears welling in his once bright eyes.
"make sure th..they put my soulstone in a tank... it'll be... real fethin' cool"
"Yes, you're gonna be the most fethin' cool tank!!" burning hot tears streaked down Altharius's face, as he held his brother's soul in his grasp.

I would say a darker purple for the grots. I would stay in the purples or maybe a shade darker blue but not to much. If you change the shade to drastically it will clash horribly with the army. Thats my advice. Individually the heads bother me however in the squad they look great.

For a race of smaller guys the grots will be I suggest pale skin tones, maybe even white or rotting flesh (The GW color). I'm a big fan of rotting flesh myself. It's always pretty sexy.

Very cool looking army, though everything obviously looks orky. Also, did you intend for your background to basically be that of the covenant from halo?

names reminisce of halo much?

other than that i like the idea of the army,
however if you wanted tomake come kind of Covenant style army might i suggest using tau instead? they have that whole sleek look to them ...... well somewhat any way

Someone in a high position can look to see what those under him think, but he shouldn't change himself for them. Just do as you like, and if no one follows you then that just means you weren't good enough for them. - Bleach.

At first i wanted to do was a evil mutant chaos army the idea just grow from there, the whole army started off with the single barghesi in the middle pic. I posted a pic of him on a forum and people loved the design so much i made 90 of them, then i made wanted to do some leader types. After that it just kinda of fell into place.
The army at first was designed to be a Lost and the Damned army not orks, but people moaned that the rules where out out date so i switched to Orks and as my little guys worship chaos and are pretty handy with a power klaw / chopper so they seemed to fit the Ork list nicely. But also I frinking love HALO and have played the game like a million times and read all the books so as i'm not a hard core sci fi writer i just borrowed most of my idea from the game and books (i'm pretty sure the nice lads at Bungie won't mind) and to quote myself

Boomer wrote:(Before i carry on i gotta say, i'm a simply bedroom hobbyiest not a uber veteran painter or some high profile script writer, i gladly steal and twist ideas to suit my need so if you think you read this before you most likely have read the books i read, played the games i play or watched the moives i do)

I painted this army on a tiny wooden tray not much bigger than a dinner plate in my bedroom i share with my girlfriend. So I am truely am a bedroom hobbyiest
And fluff don't really mean that much to me at the end of the day, it's just a sprinkles on the cake to finish it off so to speak.

Again, thanks for the great comments. It really does make me feel good on the inside. I love painting and modeling 'different' stuff than what everyone else does but i can't help fear that people would reject it off hand because it is different. I think the world of 40k is big and should be full of one off alien armies. So getting praise for my work not only makes the effort worthwhile but makes me want to do more. And don't worry there is plenty more stuff to come for this thread yet

Its good to see different things bieng done. I probably most like the colour scheme youve gone with. Ive seen some alternative ork skin tones and they havnt been all too great (For example the white-ish grey one in the painting citadel miniatures book)

Again thanks everyone for all the praise. Of all the forums i've posted my work i have to say i was most worried
about this one. Whilest warseer is pretty brutal, dakkadakka is well know for it's love of Orks. Hence i was worried that people
might be against me sticking possessed heads on ork nobs and painting them pink.
But since everyone has been so nice i've just ordered 7 more of the possessed heads (the one with 3 eyes)
It's does make the conversions alot more expensive (and i don't get paid alot at the moment so money is really tight / kids only need
to eat twice a week right?/ ) but i love the creepy look it gives my Khrave elites (counts as nobz) so the extra money it costs should be worth when the whole army.

O.k folks sorry about the long gap in the thread.
If you went to the L.O meet then you would have seen this stuff
already. For everyone else here are the latest units for my Khrave & Barghesi
army now with Grots!

This is my boom tank, I know the hazard stripes are more than a little wonky
but I got my ass kicked by some nice looking iron warriors not long ago
so this is kind of a 'Orky' style tribute to them (which i'm sure in the fluff some stoned yellow grots painted it as a show of respect).

Next is my Big Mek, he looks o.k in the flesh but here he looks a little unfinshed
and as a hq choice he should really stand out. I may touch him up later.

Here are some Khrave, I gave them the big choppas as these weapons look
so cool and they are pretty nasty in combat. The plastic nob box set has to be the best box set ever, I love what you can make with it and the models all look really cool even my pink ones.

And here are my multi coloured grots, I asked in a pole what colour people would like to see them painted, yellow and orange tied so I did both, I have to say I prefer the orange most. And I really love the Slave master model. Even painted pink he still looks good with his fat belly and grot hound!

I know there are some glaring errors (like inside the boomgun barrel) But overall i'm still enjoying doing this army. And will most likely carry on doing till the Dark Elder codex comes out.

C&C welcome as always.

Boomer.
