Curious as to what other books/series everyone is into. I would have to say that my favorite book of all time is The Fountainhead with On The Road being a close second. Some favorite series are: The Foundation series by Asimov, The Dune series, Wheel of Time.

"I.. I know my time has come" Tethesis said with a gasp, a torrent of blood flowing from his lips.
"No! Hang on brother!!" Altharius could feel the warmth slip away from his dear sibling's hands

Tethesis's reached out his bloodied arm to Altharius's face.
"I..I have one final request"
Altharius leaned close to listen, tears welling in his once bright eyes.
"make sure th..they put my soulstone in a tank... it'll be... real fethin' cool"
"Yes, you're gonna be the most fethin' cool tank!!" burning hot tears streaked down Altharius's face, as he held his brother's soul in his grasp.

What the heck? That thing had no grimdark in it until the last book! Though it was addmittedly amazing when I was 8.

Favourite book of all time? Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein.

Favourite series. The Drenai Tales by David Gemmel

Isaac Asimov
That guy who created Dune
Anything on the Classical Period
Anything on the Dark Ages and Viking era
Black Library Novels

And Great Teacher Onizuka but that is the only anime that I actively seek out.

Just finished Kissinger's Diplomacy. Very insightful, but probably the most unbelievably dry thing this side of the Sahara.

In terms of fiction I don't have much in the way of preferences, though I've always enjoyed Arthur C. Clarke.

Tom Clancy is a guilty pleasure. Multiple page descriptions of (read: sonnets to) near-future military gear? Yes, please.

I finished Xenocide and never go round to the rest of the series. It was surprising how Ender's Game, which was pretty short, suddenly exploded into a 500+ page mania about pigs and stuff.

Ya... took a strange turn that focused mostly on character development. What goes on following Bean back on earth becomes much more interesting.

Oh, and The Power of One is a great read. Really emotional, and it doesn't cut any corners. It's about a white English boy living in South Africa before, during, and after World War II. He grows up mostly amongst descendants of the white Dutch settlers and the book really goes into detail about the brutality directed towards the Afrikaans.

War of the Rats is a great fictional read based on the Battle of Stalingrad which, you guessed it, is a great account of the actual battle of stalingrad.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Joseph Conrad is a great author in relation to the sea. I loved Lord Jim and Into the Heart of Darkness by him. They are just classics.

I really love how visceral Bukowski is. The man speaks his mind. It's often violent, passionate, crude, and so true. Last Night of the Earth Poems is my favorite collection from him. I also admire Robinson Jeffers for the sheer epic beauty of his poems. His connection to the California sea coast is amazing.

I've always been more of an action-sci fi and heroic fantasy man myself. It started at childhood and rather than get drawn into 'pure' sci-fi, I started reading old D&D novels and the Legend of Drizzt.

When I'm not in the mood to read fiction, I flip through the Bible and find some good passages to mull over.

Well, on top of that list would be of course Discworld. Apart from the Wee Free Men (who are nice and all, but not Pratchtet's best material) he just keeps getting better every time. Is it just me, or were his last 8 or so books more about great storytelling and social commentary then just fantasy jokes? Not that the older books aren't great as well, but I have a feeling that the new ones are much better.

I devoured Song of Ice and Fire. ABOUT 2 FRIGGIN' YEARS AGO!! Seriously, if that man doesn't want to finish it, then he could just say so.

I read a lot of Star Wars Novels, including the complete New Jedi Order series but not one book/series managed to reach the brilliance of the original Zahn trilogy. If that man writes Star Wars I can hear the music while reading, it's amazing.

Anyone else heard of Locke Lamora? A great series about a master thief in an interesting fantasy world.

My brother gave me something form Hammilton for christmas, I still didn't get around to read it.
