Hi,
I recently read a novel called The Electric Church, and really liked the rough, gritty characters in the book. I decided to base a small Inquisitor-scale warband off of a few of them!
Avery Cates is a gunslinger who's learned all the tricks. He's only survived this long by being smart, and surviving by more than the speed of his reflexes. He's known as a gunner with average skill, but a perfect sense of the moment, and how to best use his surroundings to his advantage. He has an uncanny sense of knowing when to give and when to push, but right now he's had to abandon all of that for a job that's bigger than any he's ever taken. If he makes it through, he could retire for good, but he's going to need some help.
Cates is represented by this model done by jah-joshua, a fellow Dakka user. It actually won a bronze Golden Demon award for him in L.A. several years ago! I bought it from him to use as the main character of this warband
The second character in the group, Kev Gatz, has been a bottom-of-the-barrel kind of guy his whole life. Kev is one of the few people in the universe that Avery Cates trusts enough not to try to kill him in his sleep. He is also a psycher, and if he looks you in the eye, you'll wish he hadn't. Instead of developing his ability to its full potential, he's used it to just scrape by and make enough to live on, and to earn enough respect from hardened criminals to not be a target himself. He's fallen in with Avery Cates partly due to a mild sense of loyalty, and mostly due to Cates' threat to make him wish he hadn't been born otherwise.
To convert him, I started with Slick Devlan and cut off both guns. I then GS'ed hands in their place. It's my first GS attempt, but I think it went pretty well, considering!
The third character is Ty Kieth, a techie who's pulled a big job in the past, but isn't widely known due to his skill in masking his involvement in things. He's an incredible hacker, and can make high tech equipment nearly out of scrap, and he needs money. All of which makes him a perfect candidate for Cates' team. He's an abrasive personality and works much better with his machines than with his comrades, and enjoys their company more, anyway.
To convert him, I started with the Adeptus Arbites judge, cut off both his weapons, added a handle to the box he's usually standing on, and cut up an IG sentinel lascannon, heavy flamer, and CCW to make the large piece of tech he's holding in his right hand. I haven't decided what to use this as, yet!
Next I'll post pics of the whole group!

the techie guy is cool. I'm not sure about the psyker though. His hand looks a little big - that cold just be the pic though, also if you are going to use Slick Devlan's legs can I suggest either getting rid of the holsters, converting them into something else or putting some pistol handles in to make it look like he has his guns holstered. The empty holsters with no guns on the model just looks wrong to me, it was one thing that really annoyed me about the Damien Bloodhound model. He has a shotgun so why does he have two empty holsters strapped to his legs? It just didn't make sense to me.

It is an oath we honour. The bases look nice!!! I filed off the cylinder on the bottom of their feet, so hopefully they'll be able to stand flat amid all the wreckage!
About the psycher's hand- I know! It's a little big. It's also slightly the camera angle (since it's closer to the camera), I don't think it looks like a big 'ole mitt in real life. But it's a bit big :-/. Live and learn

Mine must have been missing then, not that I needed them as I was using the various bits in different conversions. But I have seen it before where people have left the holsters empty and it just didn't seem right.

The Electric Church is an incredible novel! Have you picked up a copy of "Digital Plague", its sequel?
OT, good work so far. Let's see some painting!
Also, are you going to include Wa Belling?

Yes, I have it but I have just started it! So, shhhhh, no spoilers
I thought about it, but I couldn't find a model I liked well enough, and also these things are pretty expensive! So I figured I'd start with what I thought were the 3 most crucial team members, and then add more later (as I read the second novel I'm thinking Belling might be in for the whole book, along with the bartender whose name escapes me at the moment, and the young guy whose at the end of Electric Church, so I'll see about adding more!)
I was thinking about possibly adding this model in the future for the bartender:
From this website:
http://www.sciborminiatures.com/en_,shop.php?art=665#i/54mm/big/Barburkir_new_03.jpg
I'd have to get rid of the pick-axe for something else, and probably go with a different scenic base! He is a fantasy model, but I think with those changes (and the sweet gun on top of his pack) it would work . Nice to see someone knows the characters I was trying to emulate

nice! I see that you are going to have more work for me in the future. That makes me happy .
on another note, I am going to *try* and get the techie model DONE today (not varnished cuz it will be late at nite, but done aside from that).
after that, I plan on starting on the other base tomorrow (my day off from my day job) and possibly even start on the mini itself.
wish me luck!

YAYZ!
Due to some complications (people coming over the house unexpectedly) I didnt get to do any work on the techie yesterday. I have the whole day free today, so, as soon as I fully wake up (ie after my parents leave the house) I will commence painting.
Take care and wish me luck (again)!

I really like the red inside / collar of his cloak! Very nice It's a little hard to make out what some of the other colors are with the glare / lighting, but I like it so far!
How did you paint the =][= on the back of the collar? That's a nice touch

Glad you like it.
Yeah, the black is kinda hard to tell, but I have 2 "different shades" of black. The coat is a blueish black (highlighted w/ shadow gray) and the carapace is just a "black black" (highlighted with white).
The =][= on the collar wasnt that hard. just make 2 vertical lines, connect them at the top and bottom and then put 3 horizontal lines on either side.
more work should go into him (and hopefully finish him) after I get home from work today.
later

Wow, that looks really great from what I can see His name is even on his should pad, nice!
I can see a bit of a gap between his right shoulder and the body, but that's a modelling issue! I'm guessing it came off in shipping. I believe I had it a bit closer to the body to get it flush, but it looks like a great, dynamic pose as-is!
The whole feel fits the character well so I am very happy

No need to worry if you've got craziness going on! I know how that can be and I'm not in any rush (it's not like I know anyone who plays Inquisitor that I'm waiting to game with... I just think it will be a cool thing to have )

I love the painting style on the first figure, colourful with the black lining. It's a slightly more cartoony effect than realistic and looks great on fantasy figures, it's similar to the sort of thing I sometimes like to achieve but I've never done it on 54mm figures. I hope you stick with it on the rest so that they match, they'll look great.

Can you get the first guy to take the photos? Yours look like they were taken on a foggy night down by the pier, and you can't really make out any detail.
edit: oh, they were mailed, so he's probably nowhere near you. In that case you might want to invest in a better camera, or a friend with a better camera.
