Just kidding.
How many of you guys are into polaroids? My gf is a pro wedding photog, but she absolutely adores polaroids. Anyway, there's a great bit on NYtimes website that has some interesting polaroids from readers.

Polaroids? Oh.
I guess I like them okay. It's nice to get the picture back immediately.
I'm not that big of a fan of photography though.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it. |

It is cool to get the picture back right away, but there's a ton of crazy cool techniques that can be done to make the picture more unique.

I make everything look fuzzy and my shaking hands make the pic look rather more "in motion" than it should be,ha ha.

Yes but Dig's miss out on the butterfly collar class the P-roids have in bushels.
There is nothing quite like an instant picture of barlio suggested subject matter in blown-out instant yellow.

Here's the thing about polaroids, they got character. They don't show you how things actually are, but how you'd want them to be. There's an ethereal glow to the pictures. Plus you have the option of doing transfers and any number of other photo tricks to them.

Polaroids cost about 1 quid a photo in the UK. And that's where my interest ended.

They are about $1.75 per exposure here. So roughly the same. Polaroid is going through bankruptcy so its hard to get the film now.

Great point. If you're at a party and you break one out the nostalgia factor alone should get some good shots. It's expensive (like all good things), but worth it.

They are my favorite camera.
Especially since I forget to develop so many rolls of film until years later

I've got two polaroids, but only one of them is a complete camera (the other is a back for my medium format camera) - used to use it more for getting the staging of a shot right (former pro- wedding snapper).
Polaroid was in a difficult position with the rise of digital photography. Join it, or perish like the other forgotten formats (APS, kodak disc anyone?).
All the photo-quality inkjet printer did was hasten their slide. When the price break equalled the cost for a polaroid cartridge (per number of prints), they were all but washed up as a camera entity.
Still, they are really good for making portraits of your friends into "the scream".
as to the "shake it like a polaroid picture" quote from a particular song - that just disturbs the still wet emulsion and makes the picture come out all wonky. Leaving it flat in a cool location works better overall.
