Time and time again I have been thwarted by the uber creatures of 40k...
To name but a few;
-Deathbringer
-Marneus Calgar
-Avatar
-Phoenix lords (Ans = power weapons if you survive thier attacks)
-Drahzar

Help me please!

Lots of small arms fire in most cases. These guys are tough because you can't insta kill them, so just whittle them down Take Marneus in Terminator vs. a guard platoon (with 1 melta per squad) at close range:

120 Las Shots=60 hits= 20 wounds=3 Missed armor saves
4 Meltas=2 hits=2ish wounds = 1 Missed armor save

And he's dead.

If he's with a squad you just need to nail it with some area/armor ignoring stuff. I love plasma myself.

It really depends on what you're playing though. 40k is like most games, everybody has something that counters what everyone else has, you just have to align your strengths against their weaknesses.

The Nightbringer is scary because bolters can't harm him.

Tau laugh at him. They Laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh some more.

My advice: Ignore him.
Seriously, he's 360 points IIRC.

That means less Necrons on the field.

Which means a faster phase-out.

You could lascannon him to death if you felt like it.

Unfortunately these are things we must suffer through as 'Nids, uber characters everywhere else.

Fortunately we have the ability to take lots of choices in our lists of critters just as hard to kill although not as deadly one-on-one.

We use the same tactic vs. uber-characters though... shoot them to death or try to rend them to death.

That which does not kill us, makes us stronger. That which kills us, makes us stronger. We are the terror in the night, the shadow in the warp.

I'd be interested in seeing how Implant Attack would help against SC's.

In general cheap S6-S7 firepower is the answer to just about every situation.

Knowing what army you regularly play will certainly help for giving you any advice. In general, though, Sternguard, Land Speeders, and Thunderhammer/Stormshield Terminators are the answer to most Marine players' woes with regards to special characters.

A tooled out Cannoness with enough faith can take most things short of Nightbringer. Sure she is only WS 4 with 3 attacks, but a 2+ invul with a S5 mastercrafted PW or a S6 (can get to S8) eveserator gets the job done. She can beat most characters and MCs. And she usually costs much less than what she can take out. Not the greatest, she gets instant gibed vs S6 if she fails here save, but she can get the job done.

I understand what you're saying, but if you have the option of tooling out a Cannoness, then you play an army with massed flamer/melta (Sisters), massed S7+/AP2 (IG), or better CC options (Marines).

Character murder is best done from afar. If you're in a situation where you NEED a Cannoness, you probably could have better spent the points on simply buying more troops and firepower.

Amen! But the problem with SoBs is that the best monster/charachter killing stuff is thier meltaguns. Only range 12'. So you'll eventually risk getting down and dirty with combat. Plasma guns for Storm Trooper ARE 24' but you should never, EVER rely on them as your mainstay army.

I beg to differ, Divine Guidance and rapid fire bolter power + Heavy flamer and Meltagun means something is going to die and there is nothing the other team can do about it.

Duh, I'm talking about short range. A Heavy flamer (my personal favorite, still only has a short range. The only big ranged thing the sisters have is heavy bolters (and exorcist) and while divine guidance is good (stop carnie dead in tracks) T8 models will shrug it off as they can't be wounded.

My roommate was using Marneus Calgar and his Honor Guard and the unit got slaughtered by our friend's Stormboyz Squad (18 strong) in assault because poor old Marneus has power fists. So apparently just make sure the most powerful character in the squad has power fists/claws and then annihilate them with an overwhelming force in close combat. Unless you somehow miss the majority of 95 rolls to hit which I have also seen.

I never have trusted storm boyz since 5 were beaten in comabt by a single fire warrior.
I think that Marneus Dying and Honour Guard was very lucky for that amount of attacks. (imaging the thunder of 100 rolling dice). Or mabye not.

Here are Squiggy's remedies for hard shelled opponents with the following armies:
Eldar:
Mind War - this power is your friend especially quaded (spirit stones and 2 farseers), a potential of 20 wounds without normal save[?]
Wraithguard - these puppies deal out alot of instant kill and can poip tanks and smeer small troops in CC, whats not to love but the model?
Wraithlord - AKA humies sqwisher, with T8 and S10, even fexs run from its CC power
Starcannon salvo - with the all powerful termie killer in your arsenal, only the hardest of enemies will walk away with a full war walker squad of starcannon shots.
Diresword - a seemingly useless weapon the dire sword is not only a power weapon but has the chance of instant death to boot, a hidden IC killer.

Tyranids:
Implant attacks - these evolutionary tools make killing a breeze causing two wounds for the price of one, making every wound count. Coupled with MC or scything talons increase effectiveness
If first you dont kill it, try and try and try and try again - WoN is your friend (unless going for KP's), have not one but many goes at this nutter killing your bugs.
Warp blast - lets see an IG psyker match the tank popping and mind vaporizing of a focus warp blast, at S10 AP2, send those super heros/villians to hell.

Orks:
The Gretchen wave - 3 runtherders with grabba sticks comes in real handy, taking away 3 attacks of that mass murder (dont worry we have more ) and a return of up to 33 attacks is nothing to cough at, and if we get the charge. Those squig hounds keep the gretchen in the fight.
Burna boyz - Burn 'em, or cut 'em, with the choice of a template to remove bodyguards/attatched squads or a power weapon for carving up, chop chop.

Gift of Chaos: No saves what so ever and no such chance for eternal warrior or anything else.

has pretty much the same chance to kill stuff as NFW.
