Dont really have an opinion on a third. Orks get blown away two fast and Tau warriors are ballistic skill 3 with low leadership.

Space Marines are lack lustre too in my opinion, the bolter is weak considering the small numbers space marines have. Also they are over expensive because of their armour save considering the amount of ap3 or 2 weaponry that exists.

P.M. me for rational Eldar Advice, both on list construction or Tactics.

Also feel free to query me about rules from the Eldar and Space Marine codices, as well as the General Rule book.

1) Dire Avengers : beautiful design , and who can say no to aspect warriors to be fielded as troop choice!

2) 15 Hvy Weapon Teams in a platoon : every gunline lover is happy

3) I like Eldar Path Finders too.

Eldar is great!

I actualy think Sisters are one of the very nice troop choices. Thousand Suns are nice to for their durability. And i've seen 'nid players do a lot with 'Without Number' hormagants.

IG Vets, they're awesome now. 3 meltaguns in a chimera, it's lovely.

SM Tactical Marines. Am I the only one who really likes these guys and thinks they're great troops?

Plague Marines. I hate them, but can't deny how nasty they are at holding objectives.

honorable mention: Ork and IG massive squads, because units that have over 30 models are awesome.

1. IG Vets ( cheap, deadly and can go mech+melta)
2. Sisters ( almost as cheap, more durable and can go mech+melta)
3. CSM ( reasonably priced, lots of options, can go mech +melta)

Im sure you notice the trend but any troop that can put 2+meltaguns in a transport with fire points will be my choice over any that can not.

Hormagaunts cannot get Without Number.

I would say Shootaboyz are the best value for their points, followed by Plague Marines and Battle Sisters.

CSM Plague Marines - tough to dislodge
Eldar Jetbikes - fast Objective grabbers

I'd like to say IG Vets or Platoon, but both were nerfed pretty heavily from the previous Codex, so they're out of the question.

Tactical Marines aren't bad, but they're so vanilla and average.

Point-for-point, I think the humble Dark Eldar Warrior is still a solid Troops pick. Crappy model, but very solid rules-wise.

1. Sisters (cheap for a durable power armour model, acts of faith )
2. Guardsmen, lots of them, lots of guns. (even if the hardley hit squat when you need 'em to)
3. Inquisitorial Storm Troopers; suprisingly useful in small, fire arm squads. Many players hardly even notice them moving around, discreetly taking lone objectives. Also to have 2plasma gun is a 5-man troop choice is very good. Plenty of divertsity, but should not be the mainstay of you're army. (Hot shot does not apply to them...yet)

Yeah, and IST fit my "can get mech + melta" criteria as well. I may have to revise my list to put them at number two and drop the CSM to honorable mention. Vets still win though with 3 specials in an AV12 transport, the ability to take HW in addition to those three, just so much shooty goodness for so few points.

Genestealers for the 'Nids.

Any non-Nid player who disagrees can just show their disdain for them by NOT shooting at them when you play against a 'Nid list that has them in it.

Yes they are expensive & fragile to shooting but they are absolutely impossible to ignore.
Entire battles can swing on just how an opponent reacts to the presence of this brood as a troops choice on the table.

I'd say that Tactical Marines (for their resilience & adaptability) would be second.

My third choice is going to be Dire Avengers... why pick Guarddians when these are the competition for a troops slot? (I'm not an Eldar player though, so that question is rhetorical)

Dark Eldar Warriors: 100 points gives you 10 men and 2 lance weapons.

Orks: big numbers and toughness 4

Plaguebearers: laughs off small arms fire and bigger weapons too.

Interesting how many people mention tactical marines but not chaos marines.
You realize that CSM squads get bolters, bolt pistols, AND close combat weapons, right? Plus all the same options?

Anyway, I'm gonna say
1) vanilla CSM
2) ork boyz based on the fact that they hit like MEQs on the charge but for 6 points each
3) dire avengers, especially because bladestorm is sick

Melta-vets in a chimera.

Sisters.

Gretchin. For the infinite comedy value of running them over minefields. Them or guard conscripts with Send in the Next Wave. the look on people's faces when those 49 guys they just killed come back for 75 points...

I collect:
Guard - 2k of mostly infantry
DA - 2k of deathwing, 2k of other bits (no vehicles)
Sisters - mostly converted/proxy because I'm waiting for therange to go plastic.
Tau - 2k with no riptides because I can.

The eye of terror.

As much as I love my craven-hearted Black Legionnaires, I cannot claim that they are one of the best units in the game as they're fairly easy to break, and make sure they won't stop running.

So:

1. Space Marine Bikers. T5, more firepower and mobility than a tac squad will ever have, and a horror in H2H against Str 3 units.

2. Sisters of battle. These ladies can do it all: deadly shooting with AP1 bolters, melta weapons, and can actually be deadly in CC with acts of faith and the Book.

3. Shoota boyz: just as good at ranged combat as a dire avenger (point for point) but T4, and way better in CC. Yes please.
