Yes. I also know how to spell.

The tutorial involves the casting of a Griffon shell. I made it. Neither FW nor GW makes a Griffon shell. Hence the reason I was compelled to make and cast my own. My next casting project will likely involve a rocket. I'll make an original and then make a mold from it.

Thanks Chibi!

The original tutorial is here. Since you're in England, you might try reading endtransmission's P&M blog. He bought his casting materials in England at a business called Tomp's. Apparently the materials that I used are difficult to find across the pond. If you make something cool, let us see it!

found their website and as expected am a bit scared by the costs
So will wait for a simple but necessary project, though I must say this is a process I want to try out!
always good to play with new techniques!

btw the linkys are dead, for some reason it is saying the pages are unavailable

ps does the silicon mould technique allow for undercutting please? am assuming it does.

I haven't worked with a silicon mold yet. My understanding is that they are very flexible. There are at least two Dakka P&M blogs by folks that were executing very difficult casting. One was Sersi, who was making Slaanesh demons, and the other was by BrotherArgos, who was making his own Steel Legion miniatures.

I fixed the links. Sorry, it was my errors not any problem with Dakka.

more good stuff to look at!
inspiring - maybe one day my sculping will get good enough

Sorry it was late when I posted and was confused - The casting putty looks less flexible and so therefore assuming undercuts are an issue.

Great tutorial. As long as you don't sell what ever you are casting, I don't think its illegal. How much do the chemicals cost? That is my only problem with casting, it seems it is not worth the cost. It would be easier to hunt for most item on eBay?

It is worth it to make customisation pieces you need more than a few of.

For example, I am making a variant SM army which uses M113 hulls for most of the vehicles. I need the engines which go on the outside, they look like little chimneys. This isn't a spare part I can just buy, and I need four to eight per vehicle, which is a lot to make individually out of card and rod. Instead, I can make a single master unit, with great care, and make a set of four moulds from it, then cast as many engines as I need.

The chemicals are easily ordered on the internet. Just search for resin casting. They are easier to get hold of in the USA than in the UK.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

BT uses the Codex Astartes as toilet paper. They’re an Imp Fist successor, recruit from multiple planets, and are known to be the largest Chapter in the galaxy. They’re on a constant Crusade, keeping it real for the Emperor and not bumming around like the other guys. They hate psykers and can’t ally with them. They’re basically an entire chapter of Chaplains. CC lunatics. What every Space Marine should aspire to be, if not trapped in a Matt Ward nightmare

You're welcome. Good luck with casting! There are several good blogs on Dakka for casting and many of the folks in England recommended a company called Tomps for casting supplies.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I have been interested in doing this for YEARS, but could never really find anything on the subject that broke it down like you have (without paying an arm and a leg)! This is very much appreciated!

You're welcome! Take a look at some of the threads that are linked at the bottom of the article page and you'll find a lot more helpful information on more advanced casting.

One piece molds are even easier. If you have any questions, BLACKHAND's thread here on Dakka is where most folks ask and answer questions on casting. Just make sure that you are not too blatant about copying some company's IP. We don't want Dakka to get into any legal trouble.
