NOTE: This is a 2nd (now 3rd) hand rumor.

http://wargamesfactory.lefora.com/2008/12/15/sci-fi-androids-6mm/page7/#post13760448

Lines went off their on-line catalogue on Sunday. Various people from the tactical command and warseer forums contacted ForgeWorld yesterday and got the same response. Anything that has gone from the catalogue is now out of production. Other lines will stay on the catalogue while they have stock, and callers were advised to buy now. They were then told that Forge World are reviewing the entire epic line to see if its finnancially worth continueing, and some staff hinted that they thouight this unlikely.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Anyone know more?

Dunno, but isn't AI a different scale? Epic is 6m, AI is like 10mm or 15mm.

If I recall correctly AI was the same scale as Epic, it was just that the old epic aircraft models were always way smaller than they should be.

THat would be a shame if it happened... always thought about getting back into epic but somehow it always ended up with me spending my cash on BFG instead.

I won't miss it. We have Apocalypse for huge battles now and don't have to fart around painting models 6mm tall.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I will miss it, and wonder how many years will have to pass before GW tries again.

"Epic" scale is an awesome way to represent the 'true' scale of combat in the 40K universe, and really the only way a superheavy or titan should hit the table...

Thing is many people said 'If you really want to play battles that large just go play epic' and the detail level of forgeworld epic miniatures was really jawdroping.

Anyone know what else then epic is sitting on the firing line as of yet?

I will miss it, for the exact opposite reasons. Epic is ten times the wargame system Apocalypse ever could be.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

The you sir don't have a clue what real wargaming is. Epic invites me to wipe my incredibly large and hairy keister with Apocalypse. EPIC has something called tactics which involve more than piling your guys onto a table and making pew pew noises. Its not Avalon Hill level, but tactics, morale, and preplanning are required.

I suppose it's a bit contradictory. I meant the really small ones like Flames of War and Epic.

Och you're missing out on what real wargaming is then. 40K is beer and pretzels or a launching platform for painting/converting. Apocalypse is pew pew noises.

A whole world of real wargaming is out there.

I'd rather play Pokemon with five-year-olds who have ADD than paint an Epic scale mini.

Someday, I hope to raise my painting skills from absymal to god-forsaken.

EPIC scale minis are substantially easier to paint than 40K scale. Much less detail required. Two to three colors for infantry means you can paint all your infantry in 2 hours if you want.

And now a blast from the past real game:

Brings back memories of the 3rd grade. Fun!

Fazzled is right CE, Epic was an awesome system, it requires you to think alot more a reason why I still play it and don't play 40k anymore (even though im going to dip my toes into 40k again wish me luck).

It is a true wargaming experience as 40k is a Skirmish game not a huge battle game, that is what epic was deisgned for, you can complain and disregard the minis all you want but for feths sake try and read the rules before you bash the entire game.

Take your stone-age games elsewhere. This is a forum of the present.

If I wanted to have fun with something old, I'd throw water balloons at Old Man Jenkins next door

And of course I don't hate Epic, I just think Apocalypse is better.

Back in GA

A group of us in our club had been batting around playing epic for years, especially when GW rereleased the living rule book and new models. We then sat back and watched as everything was pulled from the shelves (again) and realized it would not be a supported game. Our local store didnt make much if any money stocking and selling it so getting stuff just got dificult. We finally just gave up as nobody is inspired to play a game that the company does not support.

I do what the voices in my wifes head say...

[hyperbole]Epic is the reason why we can't have nice games from GW.[/hyperbole]

It's one of their best games and it's the one that sells the worst (Bloodbowl is their second best game, and that has its own limits to selling, both written by Jervis Johnson I might add).

Warhammer 40k, on the other hand, and particularly its Apocalypse supplement, has demonstrated that there is an inverse relation between the quality of a game (rather than, say, it's playing pieces) and its success as a product. Sometimes I think this is why crappy board games like Risk, Monopoly, and so on are still steady sellers: people don't want excellence, they want mediocrity ("satisficing" in fancy jargon).

Of course that argument is itself obviated by the popularity of chess.

Apocalypse is pushed by GW to sell larger, more expensive minis. EPIC is not pushed by GW because by its nature, it can't.
