Just curious, but what are the rules for them? I know they can take burstcannons, I also heard that they can take fusion cannons, but I dunno. What can they take? What are the pros, and what are the cons?

Look up IA vol 3 the Taros crusade.

Heavy gun drone rules are in there, along with Tau drone gun towers (immobile twin-linked drone weapons),

Con: You have to buy the models from FW (this is the biggie.)

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

The pros are that they make gun drones useful. =p

The cons are that they're an apocalypse miniature, so you won't see them outside of an apocalypse game.

Not really. They are in an IA Book. IA was designed for Normal 40k, not Apoc. It's just Non-Standard 40k

Many US tournaments don't allow for FW items. Forgeworld rules aren't normal 40k, they're Forgeworld.

In the dark future, there are skulls for everyone. But only the bad guys get spikes. And rivets for all, apparently welding was lost in the Dark Age of Technology. -from C.Borer

I never said it was normal 40k. I said they were designed with normal 40k in mind. 40k+IA is just Non Standard 40k, but it is still 40k

I'm already in his sig, so I can safely agree with Gwar!

Hah!

I collect:
Guard - 2k of mostly infantry
DA - 2k of deathwing, 2k of other bits (no vehicles)
Sisters - mostly converted/proxy because I'm waiting for therange to go plastic.
Tau - 2k with no riptides because I can.

Depends where you play. I use (and see used) FW rules all the time.

Most the ones in Ohio don't allow them. Personally, I don't like them in tournies, because FW does even less play testing than GW.

A common misconception. Much of what IA entails is heavily overcosted and most of it is more balanced than anything GW put out (Nob Bikerz, Duallash and Fantasy Daemons ftw)

Compare the Tau TX-42 to a Piranha with Fusion Blaster. The 42 is less points, the weapon is twin linked, but you lose the Gun Drones - which for KP missions, is probably a good thing. About 90% of FW is overpointed. The other 10% is underpointed. Look at the Command Rhino (Damocles ?) which dominated Adepticon a couple years ago.

Hmm, does anyone have any of the rules on hand for the drones alone? Or do I need to spend 70 tomorrow? lol

Most people and organized dont have a problem with the IA forgeworld Tau stuff its rather mediocre at best.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.
