Im gonna start an IG army but i dont want the basic cadian models

anyone have any suggestions about alternative models i could base my army off

There's catachans, of course. Or one of the (more expensive, harder to get hold of) alternate armies like valhallans. Otherwise, plenty of other companies make 28mm human armies.

Yeah there are is loads of scope with IG, as with above poster I love the Valhallans, and theyd be pretty easy to make from the basic cadian with abit of work . . . maybe not something for a person not skilled in the ways of GS

You could always checkouts forge worlds Dkok or elisarians if you like loyalists, or they also have chaos traitor guard units.

A lot of the WHFB Empire models are interchangeable with Cadian and Catachan parts, if you wanted an entire army of tights-wearing ninnies.

Alternately, I suggest Catachans. Planet Rambo is awesome.

You could always use kasrkins Like I am for my modern ig project, sadly they are $15 more

The other method of getting a unique army is to do head and weapon swaps. If you check out my P&M blog you'll see my force of Cadians with Pig Iron head swaps.

I'd go with Catachans, they're badass.

Ive seen some pretty sweet armies made from mixing empire with IG. The only problem is that costs alot more because your mixing two different armies. Really do some research, and figure it out on your own. Youll know what you want when you figure it out. Good luck

Catachans; jungle fighters, plastic, pretty good sculpts, huge arms, good model selection.
Valhallans: Ice world warriors who are so tough that they can hold on to metal in sub-zero temperatures with bare hands, metal, Horrible sculpts, decent model selection
Vostroyans: Steam-punk busby-hatted, metal, excellent sculpts, good selection.
Tallarn: desert warriors, metal, decent sculpts, decent selection.
Armageddon Steel Legion: gas-masked trench guard, metal, good sculpts, decent selection.
Mordians, dress uniformed, Same as Above.
Elysians: Drop troopers, Resin, Excellent sculpts, good selection.
Death Korps of Krieg: gas masked trench guard, Resin, Excellent sculpts, Insane selection.

Try Pig Iron Productions. They have both complete figs as well as converson packs for plastic Cadians.

I also vote for Pig Iron, either the heads or the whole models.

Traito Guard is also a good direction and every traitor guard player is another hope that we'll get a L&D codex.

I'm making an IG army based on Cobra. I'll toss some pics up when I get the heads in; though I did make a cobra commander already.
