It is only with great restraint that I can type this without using the language I feel is appropriate for the person who did this. To add to the disclaimer: Before people go "oh how can you be upset with that when babies in Darfur are dying?" I just have to say as terrible as tragedies like that are, there is a human defense mechanism, at least in me, that puts a level of detachment on stories I read about or see on television. To see such vile behavior for ones self is another thing altogether.

So I'm driving home. Traffic is running at about 35mph in each direction but the roads are still packed. Ahead of me in the other lane I see a beat up blue mini van with what looks to be the driver tossing a fast food bag out the window. My reaction is what a tool, where's a cop when ya need one. The car behind him had a much different reaction. It swerved into another lane, running a pickup into a shallow ditch. WTH? It wasn't a landmine the guy tossed. When I got up to the site I could get a better understanding of the reaction. The driver of the blue mini van had thrown a kitten out the window. It the car behind it swerved to avoid it. I don't know if the car hit it or if it was the car behind it, but the kitten lay there partially crushed and convulsing in the street. What is wrong with people!? I know violence is not the best way to answer this but I have the genuine desire to knee cap the guy for such a vile act. That's another notch in the loss of faith in humanity tree. Poor tree hardly has any bark left at this point.

To answer the the first part , yes humans are despicable , or rather forgetful , or perhaps good at lying to themselves.

If they go to slaughter house , and see how the meat is processed , they probably wouldnt eat that certain meat for a few days. Then they'll forget about it and go eat some steak or burger.

2nd part about people swirling from the garbage , there is a possibility that the driver behind wasnt really paying much attention , and then suddenly saw *something fell out of the car. Instinct might have told them it might even be a baby tossed out ( who knows ) so they try to not ran it over.

No, between paying attention to traffic, believing that it was just trash he had thrown out (crappy yes, worth the time to get the LP# and call the cops, not really), and my getting to the site after he had already passed by I didn't get it. Trust me Houston Animal control and HPD would be making a housecall right now had I got it.

Man, I never thought of myself as somebody who would get teary eyed over kittens, but I was, and I'm am as hell about it, but there's nothing they could do with so little information. We can only hope that the people behind him called it in. It wasn't exactly stealthy. Throwing a kitten out a vehicle window in rush hour traffic gets noticed. .... Just replaying the incident in my head makes me soo angry.

That was a sport for the rich kids in Dubai. They would chuck kittens out of cars and see how long it would last on the infamous "Shiek-Zayied Road".

It is sick, but there are worse things. Also, if I went to a meat factory, and thery showed us how it worked, I would grimace and turn down any job from there, but I would still bite down if they were serving chicken nuggets at the exit. It is natural to eat.

Anyway, there a far worse case out there. The child-soldiers in Uganda and such. It was always in the backround for me, then I met them, at Watoto. (a mfundraising movement). Believe me, the horror stories told to me there were far more disgusting and wrong than the death of kittens (which is also sick).

I didn't hear or see anything about it on the local news either, which makes me pretty angry. Somebody behind the guy had to have got his plate number and called it in. It was a pretty vile act and there is no way possible, especially with the amount of commotion it caused, that it went un-noticed. The only thing I can think of, with the news aspect, is that it wasn't deemed news-worthy. Either that or the D-bag in the mini-van got away with it because the cops couldn't prove it or something. I don't know. I do believe in the concept of karma, so I have faith that he'll get his sometime down the road. Three fold at that.

The plain fact is that people are messed up (far more than most realize) and animals are a lesser type of being to some. On top of this, just be happy it wasn't a kid, and I mean this in all seriousness.

I have had to move at least 4 animals out of the road because no one else stops to do anything. I though I saw a puppy once, but it was a baby deer... WTF is worse? Holy crap someone ran over bambi, HIT AND RUN BAMBI.

I have seen and heard of worse things, so I think any type of fire-arm or strange Mad-max style club is not merited. If it was my cat, Hell hath no Fury...

gak happens, and it sucks, but I am just glad most people don't do such things.

I can't think of a single way to do anything about this, and dwelling on it seems a bit... depressing really. Watch a few nature films, they make put stuff in perspective.

This is definitely the worst thing I've ever heard done to an animal. ever. bears with chains through their noses is painful yes. but jesus christ. At least the people who do that are desperate, and I can understand it even if it isn't right. Throwing a kitten, less than three months old, without even going to a humane society or SOMETHING... god. if I ever knew someone who did something like this, I would break his nose and rip his teeth out. GOD DAMNIT. I'm... done now.

At one time I would agree, but we just went through a week where there were two wars, some of the biggest, nation changing, legislation the United States has ever seen being debated in the House and Senate, and countless other stories worthy of the news completely drowned out by the death of Michael Jackson. In a city of two million you'd be surprised what passes for news and what doesn't.

Sure, there is alot of bad flarf going on in the world, all over the planet. As has always been. But just because there is a war going on somewhere, doesn't mean someone (or everyone) shouldn't be upset when a farked up POS throws a defenseless baby animal out of a moving vehicle to get crushed on the road by other hapless drivers.

Saying someone shouldn't be upset about that is akin to saying "oh, wow. Hey, sorry your Dad died,... but that family down the streets entire house blew up. Your situation isn't so bad compared to that. Buck up."

Grrr...
People like the kitten chucker should be tossed out of a vehicle in front of a moving train.

I partially agree with this, but a kitten is simply not someones Father, and comparing the two seems a bit drastic to me. The fact remains that police should be dealing with this problem, not vigilante kitten saviors. If you are really that angry about it, I recommend volunteering at the SPCA or an equivalent non-profit. I have had pets for a very long time, and I can't say you won't encounter this nonsense if you volunteer at the SPCA.

You can also go clean beaches, punch a wobbly clown, volunteer to tutor kids at an after-school program, perhaps even adopt a sad kitten or puppy.
