I'm just curious whether there is a new eldar planned in the next year or two, or if the current one was written for v5. I hate buying books with a "Best Before..." date.

Thanks!

i think elements of 5th edition were considered, but we will need a codex soon, but don't expect one for about 5 years

Perfect, I've been thinking of starting a second army, but it'll probably take me a year or two to complete.

Thanks!

I would say definitively No.

> Is a new Eldar codex being planned for publication in 1 year or less?

Certainly not that I have heard at all, much less from a any reliable sources.

>Should I buy the Eldar codex?

Only if you like the themes and painting, it is mediocre in the meta-game. It is also critically dependent on special character use for effective builds. In fun environments it is fine, and for variety of color and painting it is one of the best!

Good luck wherever you go!

5 years...no way. 2 years tops. I bet it will be out by mid 2011.

Easiest way to know it wasnt built for 5th edition is to read the "surprise assault" exarch power for warp spiders :p

This doesnt really show anything. They had to add they they could DS regardless of mission because 5th hadnt been released yet. The eldar codex, dispite some extra wording required to make it work in 4th, was definately written with 5th in mind.

taking up the mission

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

wel we had one a year or two ago, and as every codex is getting redone in 5th edition, i would say about 5 years, don't forget that there is generally only 3 40k releases a year

So long as it was written in 4th edition, it's a 4th edition codex. Eldar are gonna start sucking against everything EMQ the moment the new SW codex comes out, though to be honest they suck against SW anyways.

"From the fires of Betrayal unto the blood of revenge we bring the name of Lorgar, the Bearer of the Word, the favored Son of Chaos, all praise be given to him. From those that would not heed we offer praise to those who do, that they might turn their gaze our way and gift us with the Boon of Pain, to turn the Galaxy red with the blood, and feed the hunger of the Gods."

If it was written for 5th they could have done that AND made it do something else useful.. Yet it does absolutely nothing in 5th which tells me they didnt have 5th in mind.. Good example, Ork trukks. They were amazing in 4th because they had special rules NO ONE had they let them avoid entanglement. Yet now they make perfect sense in 5th and work seamlessly

I think Eldar are a 4.5 'dex.

They have some 5E things like a more flexible basic list, removal of 0-1 restrictions, and so on.

But they are lacking the cheap Transports, Special Character builds, and uber Troops that characterize true 5E Codices.

Yeah, Eldar is more like a 4.5 edition codex, not really made for 5th edition.
Speed is their armour and their tanks are still the best in the game.
But a tank charged by S4 infantry eventually gets damaged. This was much harder in the 4th ed.
Harlies lost an edge. Its no longer an uber killing unit.
Jetbikes with their 6'' move after shooting lost an edge as the enemy can eventually look through area terrain.

This would be too good to be true.
I already wait for years to see a new DE codex.
And if a new Eldar codex would come out, I would take my Eldar army from the shelf.
