Everyone's run into that special someone (not a new player) who doesn't cow to your arguments. It's that guy who thinks [X tournament winning build] isn't that powerful or [Y army] is incapable of winning a game. The question I pose is instead of arguing with him, is it cool to just romper stomper him, with said army, to win the arguement? Ex. 1: That special guy (TSG) thinks Fantasy daemons aren't overpowered, in fact any army commanded correctly could beat daemons. You walk in with a Slaanesh Ld bomb or Tzeentch 19 PD and table him so fast he'll need three Amish furniture makers and a two-thirds vote to find his teeth. Ex. 2: Ork playing TSG thinks Eldar are a pants army and suck noodles. You walk in with more Scatter Lasers than Muhammad Ali and Cassius Clay combined and rip him a new arse. *edit* To be clear there is no actual TSG, the person described is a caricatured amalgamation of people I've (and I'm sure other people) met. This was meant as a discussion not a "will people look down on me if I do this?" thread.

Really, no one is questioning the one side metagaming involved or the fact that it involves bringing a tourney army against an unprepared opponent? None of that seems unfair?

It's usually not worth arguing with someone like that. If their self-confidence and social skills are that bad, you'll just get angry and never win. They'll ALWAYS have an excuse for why that was a one-time thing.
Just avoid discussions with that person.

I don't really see what that would prove, winning a one-off game like that. Doesn't matter how powerful a list you bring, luck could still determine the winner: if you rolled for gak and he rolled really high he could still beat you, and then what?

I think it's okay to illustrate your point with a game or three. If you're both cool about it, it can be a fun test for both players. Just make sure he knows what's coming, and be fair about it. Don't be a douche about it, and if you lose, then so be it.
We tend to toss ideas around a lot at my old FLGS. It's usually not so extreme as claiming that it's impossible to win with one army, or impossible to lose with a certain army, it's more like "I think Army 1 might struggle a lot against Army 2, unless Army 2 or Army 1 is equipped in a certain way." If everyone is just tossing ideas around, it can be cool to try to figure out which theories are solid and which ones aren't.

Honestly there isnt any reaosn to get cheezed over people like that. It wouldnt matter if you always beat them, everytime, forever. They will have a reason or something to always blow it off. That guy is just getting a rise out of you for getting so defensive. People are like that, and no matter what you do, you cant change their mind. They are ALWAYS the ultimate bad ass, with all the good stories, and always one ups everyone everywhere.
Just blow it off man. The guy sounds like an inexperienced player to be saying that anyways

He must be a Tau player then. We can't actually leave our tanks most of the time without forfeiting the game.

I'm developing quite a nice list of people I don't ever want to play this way.
