Satire, and mildly funny.

The problem is that I'm sure a number of these whiny atheists are taking it seriously and taking another opportunity to tell the world how terrible religion is and what victims they are.

Really, I mean, what is the point. No pun intended, but Jesus Christ man! At what point to people get tired of spending time being a victim and get on with life?

Playing the victim role can be extremely lucrative. There are whole industries based on that.

Whatever floats your boat.. As long as it's not on my stretch of river.

I was never baptised, so I have no problem with the church.. In that respect

I can understand being upset about choices your parents made for you like, say, sex reassignment surgery or something. But if you don't believe in it, then your baptism was just another bath, why worry about it?

Because people like this feel the need to thumb their noses at God, The Church, and believers.

I mean they did get an intraweb article and we are reading/writing about it so they followed the Underpants Gnomes 3-Steps to Profit and succeeded.

Aside from the ritual hurling of abuse at bible nazi's who come to my door, I'm happily free of the dreck that is religion.

I find militant atheists to be every bit as annoying as creationist Bible-thumpers. Because both groups somehow claim to know the entire nature of the universe beyond a shadow of doubt. Although people have pitted them against each other at various points in history, science and religion really aren't really in direct competition, IMO. They operate on different fuels.

I suppose for the thousands of people who have been abused by priests this "de-baptism" could be helpful in a therapeutic context.

See, the guy that wrote this:

Hey, remember when one of the benefits of not following a religion was being spared that religion’s rituals? What’s next, Sunday atheist mass?

gets it.

The absolute idiocy of many of the world's self-styled atheists drives me up a wall sometimes. I mean really, if you don't believe in God why would you even pretend that a baptism had sufficient legitimacy to be worth "satire"?

I disagree. As Marx demonstrated through the concept of alienation, even atheists have metaphysical needs. Furthermore, ritual predates religion as such.

Yes, but the only rituals referred to were the rituals of a religion.

I have always been fascinated by some atheists desire to talk and focus so much on religion. It is kind of like telling everyone you are not gay even though you weren't asked.

It is also comical that so many would be 'atheists' know so little about the difference between what Jesus taught and Catholic dogma. Although some know way too much, which of course led them to atheism.

THis is true. Also I find the way they claim "religion causes nothing but arguments," within an argument, highly ironic.

garret I have a question for you, since you seem to be the religous type.

if a serial killer were to embrace jesus before he died would he go to heaven, and if an athiest was the most compassionate and helpful person on the planet would he go to hell

Well was it right before he died?
because no. He would have to first ask for forgivness and go to confession and tell the priest of his sins then his sins would be absolved.
Oh and yes the atheist would still go to hell. Because h failed to embrace jesus as his lord and savior.

Well, yeah, atheists have metaphysical (assuming that 'metaphysical' is a valid designation) needs. In fact, atheism does not preclude the possibility of one being religious. That isn't the point. The point is that contemporary atheism thrives on its ability to negate the dogmatic thinking of religion. Once you inject ritual into the mix that ability disappears.

Yep. Satire is a form of legitimation.

One minute you're religious, the next you're not.

Make up your damn mind!

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

You can't call some words spouted by a random guy on a wargaming forum an example of Christianity.

It's clear he's joking anyway. Stop being a bigot.

Why... he regularly spouts off wonderful tidbits of morality in the name of an anthromorphic personafication of a creation myth.
