So here's the deal... I used to be the guy who was always fun to play with because I usually lost but always gave people a run for their money. Now I'm the guy who's fun to play with but who has an outflanking genestealer list with a dakka-tyrant, dakka warriors, and 2 strangler fexes so I have something that shoots more than 18". I'm starting to find that people are getting more testy now that I'm actually not giving them as much of a run for their money... I'm actually starting to pull ahead and get a solid victory.
The last game I played was against a 2k chaos list with no tanks. He had a daemon prince with lash and a ton of noise marines. He said that my dakka-tyrant was cheesy and totally unfair and that I was cheating by using a proxied lictor (which was a plastic tree on a base with the words "I'm a lictor and I'm hidden. Boo!". Everyone thinks it's really funny and cool and he did too until I my genestealers came on the board). We were tied for objectives and I was ahead in KP's by 1 and he gave up and quit.
It really annoyed me that he started swearing and getting telling me my stuff was cheesy and that my rerolls weren't fair. He'd roll to hit, score 8 out of 12 and wound on 6 of 8 and pretend like he was doing terribly. I was just having fun and was excited that I stood a good chance of actually winning. I'm still having fun, still congratulating everyone on their good rolls, still not doing anything different. Just finding something that gives me a good shot at pulling out a win, because I'm really tired of losing all the time and feeling like I do more fighting with the rules that benefit everyone else and kill me than even fighting the enemy. I'm the guy who needs a 2+ to hit and gets a 1 three times in a row. I'm the guy who out of 27 dice gets no rending. I need all the help I can get, and this list is what has helped me do it.
So does anyone else feel like around some people having a competitive list is a detriment to getting along with them and makes for a much less enjoyable time?

Yeah that. Sucks to be them. There's nothing wrong with your playing or winning, although eventually actual get a lictor if you plan to use it consistantly. Nothing wrong with a proxy or two now and again....

I love fluff and I love painting and converting and putting together a good list... And I do play to have a good time, win or lose. I guess I'd just like it if other people took losing as well as I do because, well, I lose a lot. Mainly because my army of choice has been REALLY nerfed. I know what you mean about people complaining though... I know some people who will bitch at anything just so they can hear themselves talk.
I just feel like the people who I enjoy playing the most are people who have a good time, play fair, don't take themselves too seriously, and don't take the game too seriously either. Basically everyone I play with is that way most of the time, which is of course by design. I just like people who have fun and don't take things personally. You guys think that way too?

If you lose you lose, if you win you win, if they bitch about it then well w/e. I play deathwing and if I don't play around 1500 points AT LEAST it's like a gigantic handicap for me. I'm use to it. I have had a kid who is a complete dunce and uhhh lets just say uber nerd is a good way to put him beat me because all he did was swarm my poor deathwing at 1k points... (he also thought it would be cool to take 200 points over his limit also) I took the loss and said W/E. If they can't do something like that in a fair fight then they are just being a sore loser.

My only question:
Was he new to the game entirely or just metaphorically?
My only remark:
You know what... I won't waste this... I call a TFG chaos player who cant get over how the rules NEVER allow him to win every game. Well, would you look at those dice roll.

Bah! Don´t worry some people will always complain.
About the proxy Lictor, if the tree is big enough why don´t you use some bits like claws and a tail or two to improve it, that way nobody can accuse you of cheating.

Hey man, there is nothing wrong with wanting to NOT lose all the damn time. It happens. I used to lose alot playing a VERY fluff oriented IW chaos army. Now I play Orks, and it turns out Im actually a pretty good player and win lol. So I know where your coming from. Screw the people that dont like the new you. Just keep on rocking and enjoying what your doing

Yeah TFG was just sore cause he was losing like its your fault he cant figure out how to deal with flankers . As for your lictor thats and awsome funny idea I like humor like that in the game , he liked it at first and laughed but when he was losing bitched about it . I would have called him out on that and made him feel like the JA that he is but thats how I get when people act like jerks in a game .

I'm teaching a couple of the boys in my club how to lose better. In time, they may even learn to lose brilliantly.
They have stopped sulking and throwing things. They have even mastered the handshake and smile and "thanks for the game." (in time the sincerity will come).
This guy, though, sounds like a tool. He belongs in a box, with the rest of them.

It's all about good grace and whatnot. I lose all the time but as long as the game is fun and the opponent isn't one of those witches who dances around the table whooping like a slow, it's all good. It's one of the main reasons I solely game in our little group of friends and not a GW store.

Unfortunately, it is easier to be a good winner than a good loser. You seem to do both well. But there are those who can't stand losing.
I've found with folks like this, it is better to either let them vent, or not play them. I wouldn't give in, mind you, if you are following the rules, you have nothing to apologize for. On the other hand, if everyone in the shop feels the same way, it might be worth bending to keep the peace - in other words, adapt to the culture.
But that's a personal decision and can backfire if you pander to unreasonable demands.
Best advice for unruly opponents: be polite. That's it. And if they won't chill, politely decline playing with them.

I think the atmosphere of the gaming store can add a lot of this - are there other poor loser there? (And I mean other people who take losing badly, not "other poor losers" = the average GW geek).
I was in a store once playing against the "star dwarf player." I was using an army from the cabinet, everything they had painted for Chaos Warriors. I had never used them before, and used very basic tactics (CHARGE!) I won, handily - thanks to the troops toughness etc. and the fact my opponents strategies were very, very, very limited.
Every single time he lost a unit, he chuntered to himself and swept the pieces off the board with his arm into his box. Then, at the end, he grumbled, muttered and chuntered a lot a more, swept everything else into a box and stormed out of the shop ignoring me and my polite "Thank you for the game."
I remarked on this attitude to the regulars and staff, and the response was "He was pretty well behaved; I mean, you beat him - he had every right to be rude but he was pretty polite." My conduct was considered to be wrong because I had come in and beaten the star player (who really wasn't that good) and it was considered normal to behave like a petulant child when you lost. I saw a lot more of it - people we stuck-up, petulant children most of the time. And this was considered normal.
I think such an environment breeds such a thing.

I don't think being beat in a game allows them to be rude, even worse is what dark knight said that he wa spolite and was within his rights to be rude to the guy who beat him... surely it should be he should be polite and accept he was beaten and try to learn from it to make himself better... not he was beaten so by not swearing at the winner an such he was the bigger man and how dare the winner beat the golden boy...
Some stories really make you notice how wrong some people who play games can be

I don't really have any right to talk, but god damn are people stupid. I mean I get mopey when I lose, too (my brother probably doesn't like hearing me bitch about how broken Lash is anymore after fighting his 'Ard Boyz list over and over ), but I would never try to defend my own behavior, or worse, blame it on the other guy unless he was just an ass.
