Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce that the new game in the Warhammer 40,000 Roleplay line, Rogue Trader, will be released in a special limited collector’s edition!

The Rogue Trader Collector’s Edition is a special release packed with extra features that is limited to 1,000 individual copies. The pre-orders that begin today are for the initial 500 available through the FFG website...each of these initial 500 copies are personalized with the name of your specific Rogue Trader!

Each name will be immortalized in hand-written calligraphy onto a Warrant of Trade. In addition, those 500 Rogue Trader names will also be featured on a special list on the Rogue Trader web site.

The Rogue Trader Collector’s Edition is taking pre-orders now and will ship in the fall of 2009.

Tempting tempting tempting! But we want to use our books for gaming, not as display pieces.

Me too. And I don't even role play. But I do enjoy the Dark Heresy books. And I am a sucker.

But at $120 dollars.... kinda steep for gaming.... but there are a lot of ardent gamers with far too much time and money on their hands.

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."

Oh noes, I can't divide my money between my Dark Elves and this...

Does it still have the fun critical hit charts? If not, I'm not touching it.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

What name did you choose for your Warrant Personalization?

Marius Durand. Sounded like a good fearless rogue trader name.

The only name I could think of would be Gonzavio Hernandez... but I'm not sure I'd want that.

I'd put Commissar Lord Matthias Calgar, but he's a Commissar, not a Rogue Trader.

Whenever I'm stumped for a good name, I always check baby name pages. Got that one from: http://www.babynamenetwork.com/index.php?page=Search&origin=Latin&gender=&type=meaning&search=&submit=Search

I've got a great name-creator that I can't get to from work (work blocks it for some reason) that creates names, addresses, web-domaines and even social security numbers.

You can pick a variety of countries for both address and the name, so if you want a Japanese man living in Sweeden, it'll give you a Japanese first name and last name, and then a proper address/phone number/etc. in Sweeden. Quite clever really.

What in the world would you need that for?

Unless you're an author, and use it to make 'realistic' backgrounds for your characters?

Or something?

Well I never have needed that function really - but the name generator is the cool thing. Proper names for various countries - so if you want a name from Italy, you get one. Germany? No problem. Chinese? It can do that too. There's even subtle difference between English and American!

That looks sweet but, too much so ...

... the cost and the coolness would prevent me from actually USING it to play the game !!

I'll definitely be getting the regular book, though. Maybe even a few so I can bribe some friends to give it a whirl (I still have guilt issues for having them buy into Mongoose's Battlefield Evolution !!)

My favourite "generic SF tough guy" name generation method is to just look through a list of Texas counties, and pick a couple to put together.

Tyler Calhoun

Travis Randall

Tarrant Maverick

That kind of thing.

Not sure that works so well for 40K though -- I think you'd want to pick something classically Roman for at least one of the names. Still, Atticus Calhoun could kinda work.

... not that I'm paying £80-odd for *ANY* RPG book.

OK, what's the link???

Rogue Trader sounds VERY cool...

If it is as good as Dark Heresy was in 'setting the scene' it will be great to get for background and stuff...

Just so you’re aware, there was a glitch in the FFG webstore this weekend, the Rogue Trader Collector’s Edition is still available for pre-order.

Is FFG like Amazon and charge you when it is shipped or do they charge when you pre-order? I've never worked with them before through there website.
