I'm going to post a guess. They will be new paints with more pigment and are probably designed to compete with the GW Foundation series paints.

Devlan Mud would be trademarked or something presumably, but the conversion would likely be:

VAL 73200 Game Color Sepia Wash $2.99 -> gryphonne sepia
VAL 73201 Game Color Black Wash $2.99 -> badab black
VAL 73202 Game Color Pale Grey Wash $2.99
VAL 73203 Game Color Umber Wash $2.99 -> Devlan Mud
VAL 73204 Game Color Flesh Wash $2.99 -> ogryn flesh
VAL 73205 Game Color Green Wash $2.99 -> thraka green
VAL 73206 Game Color Red Wash $2.99 -> baal red
VAL 73207 Game Color Blue Wash $2.99 -> asurmen blue

Pale Grey Wash doesn't really line up with Leviathan Purple.. actually I don't quite get how Pale Grey is a colour that can be a wash.

(Edit - Kanluwen - I thought devlan mud was more of a dark brown than grey, with umber (presumably raw umber) being the closest on the list)

The real question is whether these paints will have the same properties as the GW foundations & washes.

I'm guessing Pale Grey would be like Payne's Gray.

A Pale Grey Wash would be AWESOME. Easy to shade white without having to water down a paint or black wash? Yes please.

This will be good for the crowd who normally use vallejo alternatives anyway. Generally higher pigment concentration, dropper bottles, and better price to volume ratio.

Thanks for the heads up on this- its not even on the Vallejo website yet.

A note- the standard Vallejo bottles are 17ml, the GW pots are 12. And it looks like the Vallejo has a lower base price also.

So- as usual, GW charges more, for less.

Also- for us airbrushers- the 'Heavy paints' may means we get a stronger concentrate, more thinner might be needed- but we'll get more coverage per bottle than we do already.

This is win/win news.

Also- I wonder if anyone will be selling the new ones as a full set? I better shoot Neal an email ^_^

Can't wait for these to hit the shelves! The only GW paints I use now are the foundation ones. Vallejo have always had more choice, better coverage on models and always been better value in my opinion...

This is interesting. I noticed these paints at Battlefield Berlin's website a while ago, but nowhere else, they must've had them on preorder for a while.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

This is GREAT news... I've been gradually going away from Citadel and converting to Vallejo for months now, and a Vallejo "Foundation" range would be great. Better coverage, more options (extenders, thinners, etc), less wastage, and a far wider range that is BETTER VALUE for money.

Love GW's mini's, but Vallejo paints romp all over Citadel.

I like the idea of the heavy paints, but since I use a wet palette, I don't see myself using their new washes. If I were to do that, I'll need to get a small dry palette as well.

Grr. And that Pale Grey wash sounds terrific for shading white.

Seeing as I can't find Vallejo paints here (and I have already emailed the distributor a couple of times), I'm thinking of switching back to Delta Dreamcoat. (The big 2 oz/ 59 ml. bottles they have at craft stores) Just out of curiosity, does anyone else use these paints? I find them inferior to Vallejo, but way better than the GW stuff.

I agree. These offering are directly competing with the Citadel foundation paints and washes.

I airbrush with them, as it's much cheaper than feeding my airbrush with Vallejo paints.

I don't like brush painting with them - they are fairly low pigment, but very think - you have to thin them to the point of near-transparency to get smooth coverage, and end up with more coats than you need.

I agree with Janthkin on that one. Their paint also seems a little grainy for me.

So after reading this whole thread it seems that no one has any new ideas and everyone is copying everyone else. Is this basically it (for philosophy) and hobby paint?

Go to Volks, the Kansai stores started carrying Vallejo last winter.
Also for the airbrushers out there Vallejo already has an airbrush line, might be useful.

It has nothing to do with hobby and paint. Copying is called "Existence."

There is nothing new and original in the world anymore.

Besides, wouldn't you want to copy and steal market share from a competitor? Isn't the point to introduce similar but superior product to drive an opponent out of business?

We're talking about paint fer chrissakes, not advanced microchip design. Vallejo saw there was a market for those kinds of formulations, so they're introducing their own product.

The foundation paints and washes are the only GW paints I buy. I'll definitely give the Vallejo versions a try. And others are right...those cheap craft paints are cheap for a reason. With paint (of any sort), you usually get what you pay for. That's not to say you might not get some good results with them. The point is that your results would likely be better if you started using a higher quality paint.
