Didn't GW announce that they would be coming out with plastic stormtroopers as well as plastic versions of a couple other IG models?

No. No they did not.

Rumored, talked about, but never officially announced as 'coming out on this date'. My sales rep mentioned them a couple of times as a possibility. Assuming they have another wave of IG, I'd expect them then, so maybe 6 months or so. Karskin are moved to direct, supposedly to make room in the line for them, but that never means the new models are coming out soon, just that they ran out of boxes for the old metal ones, and don't want to reprint the packaging.

I was talking to a GW gremlin a few weeks back and he made a freudian slip by mentioning a re-release for the vanilla Leman Russ in a few months time and, because he didn't seem to notice he said that, I asked about the plastic stormies. It was as if I had caught him with his hand in the cookie jar! Even though he denied it and said that he 'hadn't heard of that' his tone and body language said otherwise. It was quite funny.

All I can say is that they are coming but I'll be damned if anyone knows when.

I agree no Warseerness this is a hobby forum not a neckbeard convention.

As for Stormtroopers well........I havent heard any rumblings but saying that didnt they mock up some greenstuff prototypes at a recent games day??.

The Stormtroopers are rumoured to be way, way down the list. The second wave is supposed to be spread over the remainder of this year (ie Demolisher) and across next year. The Storm Troopers are supposed to be in the third wave in 2011 (no, seriously).

Who knows? Guard wave two or whatever is spread over August and September so the next wave could be a similar affair.

Well then, who knows what mysteries lie for us guard players in the far distant future. Maybe we will have the model range done by the time the next edition of IG comes out!

I seriously doubt we will have to wait until 2011 before we get plastic Stormtroopers.

Some of the Guard special characters are apparently being released in upcoming months, so who knows? We don't now much past 3 months ahead these days anyway.

It's probably also worth mentioning that nary a single painted metal Kasrkin can be found in the new IGDex. Prolly not a coincidence...

I guess Storm Troopers are like wine then - their rules must get better over time. That's the only explanation I have for holding off on a new plastic kit for a unit that has A). Sucked for the better part of a decade B). No one takes because of A.

I'd guess that Stormies are being released with the Cadian characters--Lukas Bastonne, especially, given that they'd make for great Grenadier vets.

Honestly, I'm really just waiting for plastic stormies since the part of me that likes guard would love to run a whole bunch as carapace vets... something that is kinda hard to do right at the moment with vets having 3 special weapon slots and melta/plasma stormy blisters costing like 15$ or so...

My guard project is stalled out, waiting for new storm troopers too. I could use gs and Pigiron heads, but I know that as soon as I do, they will release incredibly bitchin new models and I will be re-financing my home to slap together a new army. It's the same reason I havent made any rough riders, cause the old ones are so outdated, you just know new ones hafta be in the pipe somewhere.

Hopefully they're modern versions of the old plastic stormtroopers.

There was a photo of the prototype, and it was wearing the Cadian styled carapace with a bared skull and a Scout styled shotgun.

The old plastics were okay, but they just would look out of sorts in the current line-up.

I can't get stormtrooper's with melta and plasma guns so does that mean they stopped making them which means a new kit might be coming soon?

Do you mean the gas masked ones with the hellguns that aren't backpack mounted?
