Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

Darkson Designs have posted previews of four more miniatures from their upcoming AE-Bounty sci-fi skirmish game, the Hunter and the Defender as well as two alien figures the Graffi and the Limax. The Hunter and Defender are part of the "generic" series of miniatures being released in support of the upcoming AE-Bounty rules. The game's sci-fi universe is populated with alien races, with their own distinct miniatures, and also a wide selection of "generic" figures that can be used for any of the races as well as for human troops.
Hunter
Defender
Graffi
A reptilian race originating from the Graffias system, the Graffi are well known for their expert engineering abilities. The Graffias Materials Corporation is one of the foremost metallurgy and materials manufacturers in the galaxy.
Graffi are typically skilled mechanics, engineers and technicians. They nearly always keep their electronic and mechanical gear in excellent working condition and are skilled negotiators when it comes to acquiring the best materials. As such, Graffi always wear durable and rugged clothing designed to withstand a great deal of wear and tear.
Limax
The Limax are a race of sentient gastropods known for their regenerative abilities, medical technology and methodical natures.
The Limax can be found across the galaxy in any number of professions but generally apply their intellect to methodical careers in the fields of science or technology.
These four figures will be among those AE-Bounty figures for sale at the Darkson Designs booth during Gen Con Indy 2009. As well, those fans not able to attend the show will be able to purchase the figures from the Darkson online store.
AE-Bounty is Darkson Design's latest ruleset based on the groundbreaking AE-WWII Weird War rules. AE-Bounty is set in a science-fiction universe where a multitude of alien races are scrambling, in the aftermath of the collapse of a galaxy spanning civilization, to gain as much power and resources as they can. AE-Bounty uses the core rules from AE-WWII but adds hi-tech weapons, aliens, psionic powers and all the trappings you'd expect for stellar adventures.

These are interesting. I don't think they're as good as some of the AE-WWII stuff, but it's a nice change of pace. I don't particularly care for the gun on the Defender, but otherwise, they're definitely interesting, at least. I like the weathering on most of the armor, even if it seems a little overdone.
It'd be interesting to see what the game plays like. Has anyone played AE-WWII?

See, I like cartoony crazy minis as much as the more serious scifi... but these are like middleground of both concepts and I really dont like any of them.

Well, they're certainly generic. :/
The gastropod has some potential, but the rest just lack personality.
The paintjobs make them more interesting than the sculpting. I bought several AEWWII minis and was really disappointed with the quality. In comparing the minis to the online photos, a lot of the detail was painted on, rather than part of the original sculpt.
The guys a talented sculptor, I think the could just use more detailing, more dynamic poses or more personality.

Gastropod is cool. Just a shame they made it anthropromorphic. A waste opportunity there in my opinion.
Other than that, they are well sculpted, but the Weasely Lizard things face looks daft.

They're marginal, above average at best. The Hunter is cool, the Defender is abysmall, the two aliens are somewhat cool. It's good to have more options, but the two aliens don't do it for me.

I really like the Defender. I'm not that sure about the other models though. I mean they look cool, but I don't know if that's because of the great paintjobs and photography skills or because the models themselves are actually good.

These have a great 70s, kinda Ralph Bakshi look to them. The target audience is probably older folks, not newbs from massivegunswordland.
I like 'em. Even sloth-head.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

The good news is the rules are designed so that it's easier to use any figures you want.

Now that's pretty cool.
On a side note- I just paged through their alt-WWII stuff. WOW. That line has grown to be really complete, and at least half the sculpts are amazing. Their American faction (which is usually the more boring alt-WWII stuff from other manufacturers IMO) is actually the best. And the British stuff is shaping up to be great. Comabt Druids.. hee hee. Awesome.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games. |
